I don't think Rodney has masters of anything, but he might have a better copy of the serial available for sale. |

I'm not watching any good serials right now, just THE SCARLET HORSEMAN. Gravy, this should be the next serial you should cover, you will have a ball writing about it. Lets see, we have a villain named Zero Quick, a sidekick named Amigo Manana, three heroes, a henchman that quotes Shakespeare, stock footage of Buck Jones and Dick Foran. What more could you ask for?

Rodney has the best prints available. His Mysterious Island was magnificent. Just finished watching THE SHADOW this afternoon. Not a bad serial and a cross between the radio program and the pulps. Only fault was that Margot Lane was not the attractive, sexy, damsel in distress. Harry Vincent worked alongside the Shadow more often. Victory Jory did great in the role. |

Last night I finished The Drums Of Fu Manchu. Overall, this is a fun serial with a well played villian. I love the final scene. Was there another Fu serial made? |

Last Night I finished The Indians Are Coming. A fun serial but definitely overacted in spots. Rodney's print is a little dark in spots and occasionally noisy. But it is quite watchable. That isn't intended as a dig to Rodney. Last year I was considering this serial and asked Rodney about his copy. What he gave me was an honest and accurate appraisal. And Rodney's copy is almost certainly as good a copy of this serial as we are going to get. Now starting on Flying Disc Man From Mars also from Rodney. This is an excellent quality print. The first chapter was a lot of fun. But it does look like Republic is quickly going to drop back to their standard formula of having the alien leader hire a group of thugs to pull a bunch of petty crimes. The Indians are Coming? Never heard of that one - started Zorro Rides Again with John Carroll. The Platinum DVD has the serial's trailer right at the beginning which is a nice touch, but the first chapter was awful long - it's fun, though and I'm looking forward to Chapter 2 on Saturday morning! Fly Disc Man from Mars? - Jeepers!

andarius. If you like (or don't like) long first chapters try The Miracle Rider. It has been 4 or 5 years since I watched it but as I remember that first chapter is about 45 minutes. I believe it is the longest first chapter I have ever watched, Kan |

It's a good chapter though, and the serial is one of the greats, even if the sci-fi element vanishes midway. Some early serials have 30-minute first chapters as Zorro does, but The Miracle Rider was an experiment, with the first chapter as long as a short feature, followed by normal serial chapters. Maybe the idea was to really, really hook the audience, but since there never was another like it I guess the experiment foundered.

It could have been 51 minutes. I remember at the time I was walking on my treadmill for 30 miuntes each morning and thought I will start The Miracle Rider and watch the first two chapters. Boy was I surprised. It is a very good serial though. Kan |

I loved it, but I lost count of how many times they used the same shot of Mix mounting his horse. I guess the old feller was getting a little creaky by then. |

I've heard The Miracle Rider is very good. Don't much like long first chapters but I'm willing to be swayed, Kan! Chapter 2 of Zorro, Fatal Minute, was much better - Edmund Cobb appeared in an evil-looking white hat and there was the Tallow Pot Cafe - an American version of the English Greasy Spoon, perhaps!
