Watching Any Good Serials?

I love all the '30's serials I've seen except of course Queen of the Jungle and not only The Clutching Hand but all the Weiss Brothers serials, including the Secret of Treasure Island that some people seem to find so fascinating. Me, I'd rather watch paint dry while listening to fingernails skreek on a blackboard.

Of Gravy's listed titles, the bottom 4 and Miracle Rider are my top 5. I haven't seen the top 2, but Lost City would come 6th or 7th.

C'mon, Bat. It's awful and you want a better copy? Gee whiz, that fools me to bits.

Everybody who loves serials knows The Lost City is the real deal. Dumb? Sure. Dated? You bet. But mean-spirited? I don't really think so. Movies with outmoded attitudes like this one and The Birth of a Nation are easy to throw rocks at, but really dangerous movies aren't so easily identified.

Mr. P, that was Andy who was looking to upgrade. He just looks a lot like me.

I already have the VCI version of this serial, and I enjoyed it a lot.

I am in the camp that does not find this serial any more racist than a lot of the material of that time.

I just started watching The Clutching Hand for the first time.

Sorry to hear that. But, it will be the last time, trust me.

I have to agree with panzer and Bats. I watched The Lost City and accepted it at face value. That was the way it was back in the 30s. Sure we have changed our attitudes in the last 80 years but you can't go back and rewrite history.

Oh sorry, Mr. Bat. Were you two separated at birth? I thought that post didn't sound like you.

I've heard that claim before, but he will have to prove it before I consider sharing the Wayne fortune.

I think Fu Manchu dates from 1940, Stony.

Drums of Fu Manchu? What he said.
I stand corrected. I still like it better *L*

Finished up The Secret Code today, and will probably be starting my next serial this weekend. Looks like it's going to be Zorro's Black Whip.

currently watching The Green Archer. Lots of fun Horne had a nice touch mixing action and humor in a serial.

I just finished The Tiger Woman, which I thought was OK, but nothing special. My 19 month was very fascinated with it. We started watching Haunted Harbor.

I've also been watching Burn em Up Barnes online and have liked that one quite a bit.

Just ordered the VCI version of Lost City from Amazon along with a pile of books I don't need.
Thanks for the heads up-- and yes, Bats and I were seperated at birth-- but I was colorized.

As for 30s serials, there are some real gems. Both 30s Flash Gordons and even Buck Rogers make my top ten of all time list-- but no one is ever going to convince me gathering a posse and hunting down and burning every copy of ACE DRUMMOND is a bad idea.

Mr. P. I will agree with your comment about the prayer wheel. Ever since I saw it the first time I have had a fascination with pray wheels in all Asian movies. Don't know why just do.
