I can see someone not liking Caddyshack, but to not think that Casablanca is a classic? I ain't gettin' it!

Who said that? When I ran a theater, we could always pack 'em in with Casablanca.

But you know, the thing about Caddyshack was -- the Baby Ruth in the pool. Not a great movie, maybe, but a great moment.

Wellll, I didn't really say that. I usually don't think of things in terms of what are classics... & what are not.

I think I was objecting to polls that had CASABLANCA rated as the world's greatest film... or something like that (it used to always be CITIZEN KANE that won those particular competitions.)

Since I haven't the foggiest clue as to what the all-time greatest movie is, I usually don't pay much attention to these listings. On the other hand, CASABLANCA is certainly not MY favorite film. It isn't even my favorite Bogie film (again, I'm not sure I could actually come up with a favorite, BUT I know CASABLANCA ain't it.)

I could tell you why I'm not that fond of it... but why bother. I have no axe to grind & I certainly am not interested in talking someone out of liking it (even if that was remotely possible).

Plus, this thread hasn't reached 10,000 views neither.

Mort,

Are we finished here?

Donna be silly!!

10,000 seems fine for an interim goal (&, by the way, less than 100 reads gets it to 3,000)

Before I have time for a story, I have a question: mort, have you ever tried country ham? I know there aren't any Cracker Barrels in California (and that outta be against the law).

I honestly don't know.

How does one know if the ham they are eating is country or not??

Country ham is drier, saltier and chewier than any ham you can get in Silverlake (except, maybe once a year, at my son's house). The only cities I know where you can buy it are in the South. To call it addictive is an understatement -- it's got a flavor more intense than any other -- not any other ham, any other flavor.

OH! Me and my big mouth. I will relate a story of a 16 year old juvenile delinquent, a teen so daring, that he skipped a class for a full year, well, almost a full year. The delinquent, for the story, we'll just call him Stony!

I'll arrive early to work one day this week, and reveal all.

Stony, I returned to the Tam last Friday. I knew in advance I would be subjected to the Roto-Rooter Men… but I was hungry.

The boys were certainly at their raucous “best.” However, I decided to give a listen. The instrumentation included a fiddle, accordion, rhythm guitar & electric bass. The bass player was pretty damn good. He was playing the right notes & wasn’t just playing on 1 & 3. He’d do some imaginative things and really provided the rhythmic oomph for the group. Harmonically, his work wasn’t that sophisticated… BUT it wouldn’t have been appropriate for this group & probably would have been detrimental if he’d tried something more adventurous.

At any rate, all this goes to prove something. I’m just not sure what!!
