Very clever, Stony. :D

However, for those not in the know, "Little Lulu" was written by a gent named John Stanley. I believe he also did the layouts. The guy is now revered almost as highly as Carl Barks.

Obviously, I didn't know then who the hell was writing the damn thing (didn't know Carl Barks name either). I just knew that these two comics were much more cleverly written than anything else on the market (except "Mad", OF COURSE)!!

If there's one negative that I associate with Mr. Barrier's site, it's that he seems so damn hung-up on Disney minutiae. In other words, unless you're as crazy over Disney as Barrier appears to be, there's a lotta verbiage that'll bore you.

Today, Michael posted an address for a site called "2719 Hyperion." This was the address of the Disney studio back in the late 20's / early 30's. I'm not a big Disney afficionado, but I find the site charming. Lotsa illustrations that evoke memories of the past.... & a great article (with photos) of Silver Lake & surrounding historical sites (including the old Monogram Studio buildings.... which still partially exist).

Granted, only pipple (like me) who've made the area their home for any length of time will probably find the tract as fascinating as I did! BUT, here's the address anyway:

Barrier's forte is animation history, which tends to center on Disney (he also wrote a major biography of Uncle Walt, so the topic is likely to stay top-of-mind).

As far as Disney minutiae goes, you have to surf around and find the REAL fan sites, where the theming of a fast-food cart is a matter for serious discussion.

I've enjoyed Barrier's writing since I first picked up "Funnyworld" over 40 years ago (the one with the controversial Clampett interview).

However, it seems he has exhausted most of the material that definitely centers on animation & now reports on what Walt did on January 4th, 1942, etc., etc. And, he doesn't seem to share my enthusiasm for the Fleischers.

Oh well, he still occasionally writes stuff I find interesting...... or I guess I wouldn't have posted so many times to this thread!

Live and learn! I took some exception with your statement about John Stanley. Why then was it called "Marge's Little Lulu," I wondered? Instead of exposing my ignorance by replying such here, I Googled it and discovered you didn't speak with a forked tongue after all and apparently I was one of those you referred to as "not in the know." But then I'm becoming accustomed to that here. Marjorie Henderson Buell was the creator of Little Lulu, but John Stanley did the stories in the comics. I was/am a Lulu fan too and have purchased DVD's of her archived comics since joining this site and still enjoy them as much today as I did then. Thanks for that tidbit of information.

I also had a subscription to Walt Disney Comics and was a devoted MAD reader.

Whoa. That must be quite the collection. How many issues do you think you have, Chandy?

I have that MAD collection. It’s not ideal: The pages are PDF files, the scan quality is poor enough that it's hard to make out some of the chicken fat, and a half dozen or so articles were omitted because of copyrights or something. Probably your best option, though, and the early issues are still funny as hell. (Like Chandu, I still have a lot of the originals through the early 60’s.)

The first 12 or so issues were also reprinted in the DC Comics hardcover series.

Anyone know about something similar for Walt Disney Comics and Stories (I think Rodney has an incomplete version?) or Uncle Scrooge?

Not sure what they offer, but a quick Google search came up with this site, Frank:

I only have about the first 50 two-bitters and a few dimers. I think I discovered girls, or sumthin' around issue #50.
