After several months of inactivity, Michael seems to be making up for it with, among other things, a great poster for a Bosko cartoon & a short article on Gunther Schuller's childhood reaction to viewing FANTASIA.

Good reading!

Michael has a great map on display at his website. It was marked-up by Bob Clampett & shows historical animation sites in the L.A. area.

Mark Evanier helped Michael prepare the map for web display & mentions it on his own website. He also tells the following amusing tale about Clampett:

Animation historian Michael Barrier was one of the folks who tapped into Clampett's grand memory and archives. That Bob was often inflating his own role was inarguable to the point where he eventually joked about it. One time when we were lunching, he asked me, "Did I ever tell you how I invented the grilled cheese sandwich?"

To paraphrase Groucho's secretary, Michael is waxing wroth over "The Perfect American."

Michael visited the Fred Harman museum in Colorado. The above is a self-portrait of the artist who created Red Ryder. What I didn't know was that Fred was the brother of Hugh Harman of Harman-Ising

Anyone here old enough to remember the "Let's All Go to the Lobby" cartoon they used to show right before intermissions? It's been a staple in my vocal group's repertoire for years.

At any rate, Michael found an ad from the company that made that little classic. Turns out Dave Fleischer was responsible for its production & the song is based on "We Won't Be Home Until Morning" (didn't know that):

An interesting, but somewhat confusing (to me) article about Walt Kelly & his dealings with Chuck Jones during the production of THE POGO BIRTHDAY SPECIAL:

Seems former contributor to this site, Thad Komorowski, has written a book. It's entitled "Sick Little Monkeys." And that's all Mr. Barrier lets us know.

Michael's got an article about the (posthumous) 100th birthday of John Stanley, creator of Little Lulu's Dell adventures in the 40's & 50's:
