Lately, there have been more posts around here than ever before, which we consider a great thing. Unfortunately, that also means we don't have time to read everything, or read everything carefully, or read everything carefully and think about the consequences. If somebody wants to post an indepth 500 word essay on the use of light and shadow in an Ozu film, that's great. If somebody wants to post two sentences on how they're a fan of The Cape Canaveral Monsters, that's great, too. Here at Balcony Central, we know what how many hits we get to this message board... A LOT, a lot more than post. Which mean most people read and don't post. Why? I've asked some, and they've told me: they're afraid to look stupid, or they don't think they have anything to say. This is a site (the main site, www.inthebalcony.com) that currently has articles up about Shemp Howard, It Conquered the World, and Francis the Mule, and somebody else is worried they're going to look cinematically more illiterate than your webmaster? Ho ho, tis to laugh. The more people that post here, the more that will WANT to post here, I believe. I've had an ironclad rule: do not censor posts (unless they are spam for products and services) and do not ban anybody (unless they insist on it by their actions). In the 19 months this board has been around, I think we've only deleted 2 (non-spam) posts, both for issuing personal attacks against some other website or other. We've only banned one individual, and only after he refused our invitation to post non-commercial messages before posting sales for stuff (we have nothing against regular members posting commercially; we just don't want to turn this place into a free billboard for folks who don't contribute anything else here). Respect everybody. I can't imagine banning anybody else, but we will start to delete posts that we consider mean. Please respect US on this one; there are plenty of rude message boards around if you want to find one. Sometimes, you may just be having a grumpy morning and you post without thinking. That's kind of normal, I think. So don't take offense if we do your thinking for you and delete it. Thank you. Next: Just like with kids, teasing can get out of hand. Trevor, a friend of ours, whose website (www.downunderdvd.com) is an excellent resource for hard to find films, TV shows, and serials, recently posted words to the effect that two famous serials that are "lost" in their complete form are not lost at all. Asked to explain, he hinted he may have them but that he's bound by some sort of confidentiality agreement not to share them or even confirm he has them. There was no reason, therefore, to make that post at all and several Balconeers, including me, called him on it. That got out of hand, too, and I apologize to him for my rudeness. I'm going to leave all the posts in question up, but let's remember... it IS more fun in the Balcony. Revered in the UK Posts: 11,060 Group: Admin Member #1 Joined: August 31, 2005	Your Balcony Webmaster is concerned with the amount of spam we've been getting on the website for pharmacootic... pharmicubic... pharmecut... drugs and other stuff. He tries to catch it as quickly as he can, he said, speaking of himself in the third person... but sometimes he's traveling and can't watch the board as closely as he'd like. He has an option of requiring folks to register and then be approved before they can post, but he'd rather not do that if he doesn't have to... the spam isn't THAT big of a problem yet, just a minor annoyance. So he's deputized the formidable Trophy Wife, Balconeer Foist Class and all-around sex goddess, to keep an eye on things when he's not here. You can help in two ways: (1) When you see spam, don't click on it, even to post a joke. Let's not give these ne'er-do-wells the time of day here. (2) Send an email to balconyspam (one word) at yahoo.com and let the Balcony Spambusters know in which thread the spam is located. It shall be removed posthaste. Thank you for your cooperation.
