Just picked p the Kino edition of Metropolis. This is the fullest version of the film still extant. About a fourth of the film is no longer known to exist anywhere. They have added extra title cards to fill in for the missing scenes; so, the story-line makes more sense that it every did in previous version that I have seen. The picture elements are much sharper than I have seen before as well. The vaguely-Brucknerian movie score dates for the Berlin premiere. This is the version to have unless and until someone finds the missing footage in an attic somewhere. |

That's all good to hear. I only have a poor copy of the Image version, and I keep missing it on TCM to see if their version has anything different from mine. |

Metropolis is one of my fave movies of all time; I saw the restored version on the big screen at the historic Crest Theatre in Sacramento a few years ago. A great night. |
