Here's the URL for DVD Beaver's review of the new Ozu box. http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDReviews31/late_ozu.htm The review convinced me to spring for the set, which Amazon has at a nice discount. I already have two of the films but heck, this guy's my favorite director. I know I'll watch these more than once. If anybody with a region-free player would like a free copy of EQUINOX FLOWER, PM me. It's in my top 5 Ozu movies, but I don't need two of it. |

This set also got a very favorable write-up by Dave Kehr in last Tuesday’s NYT column. Vol. 4 in the Eclipse set (7/17) will be French director Raymond Bernard’s Wooden Crosses and Les Misérables (5 hours!) from the 1930’s. Vol 5 (8/14) will be early films by Samuel Fuller (The Steel Helmet, I Shot Jesse James, and The Baron of Arizona), which I’m sure will also appeal to Mr. P. |

Actually, Frank, the only one of the Fullers I'd like to own is THE STEEL HELMET, and the price is a little steep for the one movie, so I'll pass. The other two were always on TV in the days of yore, and I couldn't convince myself to like either one. I enjoy Fuller's movies a lot more now than I did when he was making 'em, but those two will never be fun. All those close-ups jammed together are just annoying. |

Assume you know Fixed Bayonets and Hell and High Water have recently been released by Fox. "I just don't like Commies!" [Blushes at changing the subject from the illustrious Ozu-San.] |

I didn't know. I like Fixed Bayonets, so that's good news. I don't love Fuller enough to collect him, though if Run of the Arrow ever comes out I'll snap it up. I mostly buy stuff that's never on TV, and I usually rent them from Netflix first to avoid stinkers. |
