I have never thought the TV show was all that great, although from time to time it would feature outstanding episodes. That said, I rarely watched it on TV (never watch it now) and stopped buying the DVDs (which I had been watching with Kid Gravy) after the 5th or 6th season (I forget which). I took the kids to see the movie, though, and enjoyed it more than I've enjoyed most episodes of the TV show. It's nice to see old fashioned hand-drawn animation (although there are CGI sequences, which are jarring and not well done), but mainly, it's a clever end-of-the-world script without too many of the "pop culture references" that lazy writers fall back on in the TV writing. You will find Green Day performing, and one or two well-known personalities make funny cameos. They throw in some "we sure can't do this on TV" stuff, but keep it relatively tame. The bottom line is, it's a comedy, and I laughed several times, so it's successful. |

Raining in Ohio so son and dad went to 2 movies. Shrek 3: funny in spots, great looking but disappointing compaired to the first 2. ** The Simpsons Movie: we are fans of the TV show. Film and story is funnier than I thought it would be. Think most every Simpson's character was in film but missed characters of Snake and then the 2 alien creatures from the Treehouse of Horror annual show. **1/2 |

Yesterday we all decide to go to the movies. This is something my daughter and I do occationally on X-mas but the entire family wanted to go, so I bought a paper and it was decide the kids would see Alvin And The Chipmunks while my wife and I would see No Country For Old Men. We got to the theater and it was closed, the showtimes in the paper were wrong (I shoulda known the theater wouldn't be opened till later in the day...like I said, I've been a few time on X-mas.) We returned home and watched one of my daughter's presents, The Simpsons Movie. I only watch the TV show a couple of times a year but I think the show is funny. I go outta my way to watch the series opener:Treehouse Of Horror...and sometimes I'll be passing through the living room and the show'll be on and I'll watch a few minutes. The movie started with an Itchy And Scratchy cartoon, which was interrupted by Homer, then the movie was on. Homer's father starts speaking in tongues at church and delivers a message of gloom and doom for Springfield. The town is close to being an EPA disaster if one more pollutant is thrown into the lake. In the meantime, Homer gets a pig and he's keeping the crap in a silo of some sort, a silo Homer admits to sometimes using for a toilet. Well guess where Homer dumps the silo....yep, in the lake. The EPA shuts Springfield out from the rest of the world with a glass "Cone Of Silence" so to speak. Homer is found out by the town and spends the movie trying to make right again. The movie is regular Simpsons fare, which is alright by me. There are a few scenes which you wouldn't see on TV, including a funny bit with Bart skateboarding nude. |

It was funny. The voice-acting was top-notch as usual (the best in the industry today). I haven't really liked the show since Season 4, though there are some good ones here and there. |
