Now that's what I'm talking about. There is no info posted on the site yet, but I'm expecting some good flicks.

Belcourt Theater

Some of these, I'm just gonna have to go out of my way to see....Welles' TOUCH OF EVIL.........Kubrick's THE KILLING..........Lang's THE BIG HEAT.........Wilder's SUNSET BLVD. (Just 'cause I love DOUBLE INDEMNITY sooooo much) ......A Bogie triple feature THE BIG SLEEP;THE MALTESE FALCON and IN A LONELY PLACE ...plus BLOWUP by some cat named Antonioni !!!!!!

I need to move to Nashville....yesterday!

I'm not sure what The Taking of Pelham One-Two-Three is doing on a noir list, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't go see it. Fun caper film, with a peerless Matthau performance.

As for the noirs, I highly recommend Touch of Evil, Out of the Past, The Killing, Kiss Me Deadly, In a Lonely Place, Sunset Blvd., Chinatown, Point Blank and The Big Heat. Ten trips to Nashville...shouldn't be too much of a strain. B)

Although I've not seen Pelham but basically know the plot, I thought it was an ugly duckling choice. I was iffy about TAXI DRIVER being a noir also. Since I won't be able to see them all, I'm beside myself with film fever with a chance of seeing some of the others in a theater.

I plan on skipping church today in lieu of a Belcourt double feature. Not your ordinary DF mind you, I'll have to pay admission twice but now that I'm a member, I'll get a discount. Kurosawa's Dreams and The Orphanage.

Praise the Lord and pass the popcorn!

Sounds like a great Sunday.

By the way, I have told Kid Gravy, "If you ever skip school to go to the movies or the circus, it's okay with me. Playing hooky once in a while is a tradition that's more than 150 years old in this country, and so long as you go to a vaudeville show, a circus, the ol' fishin' hole, or a matinee and stay out of trouble, you won't get in trouble with me." Skippin' Sunday School to go to a movie, though... If good ol' Stony gets struck by lightning during the intermission, don't come cryin' to me about it...

2 weeks till Noir Nashville. Touch Of Evil - Orson Welles (1958) and Out Of The Past - Jacques Tourneur (1947), I plan on seeing both of these since they're on a weekend. During the week will be The Long Goodbye - Robert Altman (1973) I don't plan on catching this but I like Altman, with A Wedding being one of my faves!

Anyone care to weigh in?

Wake up and smell the Balcony.... Stony is a-postin'.....P U

If someone totally new to film noir were to ask me for a movie to serve as a point of reference, I would without hesitation recommend to them Out of the Past (1947). I honestly believe it's the quintessential noir film. I'm not saying it's the best or the worst, I just think it's the one picture that best represents the style.

Thanks igsjr! The Belcourt mag has this flick as a 4 star noir but they don't say if that's the highest rating.

Weekend Classics for the next 2 months have already started. The workers at the Belcourt have been permitted to select the films. Last weekend was ROPE. Upcoming films:
CLASH OF THE TITANS-Harryhausen, isn't it? I've never seen it.

THE HAUNTING-i just saw it for the 1st time a few weeks ago on DVD......damn.

VALERIE AND HER WEEK OF WONDERS-I've never heard of it. Czechoslovakian and a rare 16mm print to boot. I've still never head of it.

SOLARIS-Rare 35mm print. Russian sci-fi from 1970. Never heard of it either, but I think I'll check this one out.

THE PINK PANTHER-I dunno!

THE PHILADEPHIA STORY-Never seen it, but seeing it on the big screen seems to be the way to go.

LAST YEAR AT MARIENBAD-French 1961 and Oscar nominated for Best Screenplay. Another one which appeals to me.

A few months ago, weekend midnight movies are being shown. As if I'm up that late.

BEETLEJUICE-I like this film, but its showing is too damn late for me.

SHAUN OF THE DEAD-If I stayed up past midnight, I'd see this again.

MALLRATS-Kevin Smith trying to relive that CLERKS magic, but doesn't. This might be funnier on the big screen with an audience than the only time I saw it at home on DVD, or was it VHS?

PULP FICTION-I love it. Watched it the other day on cable. Royale with cheese.

STAR TREK II:THE WRATH OF KHAN-Maybe I could dress up like Obi Wan and go see it. Maybe I could stay home and kill myself instead.

And the big news:Midnight on March 21st and 22nd-George A Romero's DIARY OF THE DEAD. The showing on the 21st will be attended by George himself. Isn't that past his damn bedtime? At least the film will start its regular run on the 28th, that's when my old sleepy ass will have to attend!

There ya go. In a few months will be the free Saturday night Sci-fi series......Yipee Bubba!
