Director/showman William Castle strikes again! Guy Rolfe wins the lottery, but he buried his father with the winning ticket in his coat pocket, and has to go dig the dead guy up. The shock affects him by distorting his appearance, and he soon calls on Dr. Ronald Lewis to try and cure him. Meanwhile, he christens himself Baron Sardonicus and amuses himself by torturing his beautiful wife, murdering village girls, and abusing his faithful manservant Oscar Homolka. One of those movies that's better remembered than watched, although it's not nearly as bad as some people claim it is. Homolka's the best thing in it, followed by leeches. The gimmick this time is a "Punishment Poll"; the audience gets "Thumbs Up/Down" cards and chooses the final fate of Baron Sardonicus. Hint: Castle only filmed one ending, and it ain't purdy. The FNF Gang enjoyed this one beyond its actual quality; perhaps all movies should have their own Punishment Polls! |

The thing I remember most about this film was when Famous Monsters had a full page photo of Mr Sardonicus's smiling face.....talk about American Dentistry week. |
