A prostitute is found beaten to death in a Rome park; one by one, an unseen detective questions the young men who were in the park that night, and through flashbacks we learn what each did that day (sometimes contradicting each other) as the unknown wolf circles his prey.

Bernardo Bertolucci directs, his first film... he was only 21. Stunningly photographed, with spectacular scenery. Bertoluccci had assisted his friend Pier Paolo Pasolini on the hit film Accattone (1961) and Pasolini's earlier script, for this "murder mystery", was given to the young man to finish and direct. The result is a stunning debut. The Criterion disc is stunning, too. Highly recommended.
"I'm glad that this question came up, because there are so many ways to answer it that one of them is bound to be right." - Robert Benchley
