Anybody know what happened?

TCM had Jungle Jim movies scheduled for Saturdays during November...but no more.

TCM advised me that they had "rights issues" that prevented them from airing some of the films that had been previously scheduled.

Must be tied up with that $100 million big screen treatment of JJ in the works. (Not)

Too bad, I was looking forward to them.

Movies Unlimited reported, "Word is that Sony/Columbia has plans for the Jungle Jim films, starring Johnny Weissmuller, to make their DVD debut sometime in 2008, and they are likely be boxed together a la [Warner's] Tarzan sets."

Mike S. of Sony confirms at the Classic Horror Film Board, "Actually, it's been in the works for quite some time; I'm sure it was motivated by the big numbers on Warners' Tarzan sets... [the Jungle Jim collection] will include the six best (i.e., least bad) features, and a documentary on Weissmuller."

Does anyone know the title of the JJ film shot around what seems to resemble the temple of Angkor Wat, in my pitiful memory, and featured the song, Song of India? It's title could very well be Song of India, but not being familiar with the JJ catalog I wouldn't know. I saw it as a kid and that's all I remember about it, but would love to acquire it and see it again for old times sake. :P

Jungle Jim traveled to India in Striped Fury, so it might be that one!

After consulting IMDB, I discovered "Striped Fury" was a TV episode, so it wouldn't be that one. The one I partially recall was a movie I saw with my parents at a drive in. It had to be in the '49 - '54 time frame, 'cause I started drivin' in '56 and when I went to a drive in after that, is wasn't with my parents! IMDB doesn't give enough of a plot synopsis to really tell much, so it looks like I'll be buying the Sony box set. :P

The Jungle Jim films are good B-Jungle film fun. I've recently watched some episodes of the tv show and the best I can say is that they haven't stood up as well over time as I remembered them. The movies are better. I particularly like the first Jungle Jim movie with George Reeves as the heavy. He's terrific. He also gets into a knock-down brawl with Jim if I recollect correctly.

Captive Girl is another good JJ film. You get 2 Tarzans for the price of 1 in having Buster Crabbe even though he plays the bad guy.

More from Mike S....

"I picked the titles. I mostly went with ones that had recognizable guest stars, such as George Reeves and Buster Crabbe. But JUNGLE MOON MEN is one of them."
