In the mood for jungle action, I watched "Jungle Jim" from the set I bought from Rodney some months ago. I knew I'd eventually get around to them! It dragged on a little but was mostly fun.

The plot: Jim is hired by Dr. Hilary Parker (a woman! frevvinsake) to traipse off into the jungle to find a lost city populated by devil doctors who have some goop that will cure polio but they use it for poison arrows. Hotcha!

Good show by George Reeves as he practices his evil Clark Kent imitation. He's the guy you love to hate.

Good history lesson as you learn that the Masai were made up of Latinos, Asians and Whites, and led by the likes of Rick Vallin.

Gorgeous babe Lita Baron parades around in her sarong and does a swimming duet with Johnny. Do NOT miss her jungle dance to the pounding rhythm of the drums ;)

Virgina Grey bristles when the menfolk expect a male scientist to show up (Hilary - a man's name, too, get it?) and pretty much has a stick up her butt until she kinda starts likin' Johnny and gets saved by him a coupla times. Then - seeing him swimming around with Lita, gets a bit green-eyed, dons HER swimsuit and dives into the lake. Course she has to get saved by Johnny when she's attacked by some long-tailed monster - what the hell was that thing anyway?

Too much cutesy pet stuff with the crow and yappy little doggy.

Lots of killing and dying at the final fight in the temple. Lots of wild animal footage from somewhere.

Paunchy Johnny was just a year or so out of his last Tarzan movie, I think. Man!

Anyway - it was good nostalgic fun & I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of them, even if they're crappy. Haven't noticed the supposed new dvd's out. Did they arrive and I missed them?

I was wondering, too, Vornoff, and a quick check of Amazon shows no listing for the title.

Anyone else have some info on this release?

My opinion on the JUNGLE JIM movies is the same as Vornoff's. I also bought my set from Rodney, like Vornoff and the quality was worth the price. I found the more I watched the more fun they got. Takes a couple to get into the groove.

I noticed TCM had a few listed in the coming months, but I recall them listing a few movies once and then removing them from the schedule. Hopefully that won't happen again. I too bought the same set from Rodney and the quality was very good. TCM will no doubt have the best quality available but I still recall when they played Boston Blackie and their prints were not as good as the ones I copied of Mystery Channel years ago.

I heard the Jungle Jims were removed from the schedule as the source TCM had ordered them from "could not find" the films. Hopefully with the extra time that has passed, they have now found them :)

It looks like TCM is going to run the Jungle Jim series on Sat. mornings starting in Sept.
