QUEST] AND HIS ATRIBUTES AND RACE BANNON'S ----AND YOU HAVE doc savage!the psuedo-science, mystery and horror episodes feel right into pulp adventure. hadji and jonny [a great friendship] and the family pet [bandit], which young kid would not like this?------ralph g--i picked up the episodes on dvd and i love it

One of my favorite shows when I was a kid, although I have seen it rarely since then (the limited animation bothered me). Friends of mine say, "If you like Jonny Quest, you have to watch Venture Bros.!" which is I guess a spoof on it.

I enjoyed Johnny Quest, too, but your comment on the limited animation has me wondering if it would still hold up. I remember the stories being quite good, which could be enough to carry the show, as the animation wasn't that bad.

I have caught a few moments of Venture Bros, here and there, but not enough to speak to its quality. I would say it is a definite spoof on Johnny Quest, though.

It holds fond memories for me as a sproutling....And I bought the collection....although some of the stories are still good...the animation is limited and the memories were better off as they were....

As far as the Venture brothers are concerned...yes they are a take off on Johnny Quest..however in one episode there is a white haired fellow fighting off bad guys in one of the episodes...I said to myself....gee that looks like Race Bannon...well it was....however he gets killed and we find out that his "character" in the Venture Brothers was trained by Race....(mind you it is not all that serious because the Venture Brothers rides the wire of offbeat adult humor)

They run into Johnny quest living in a bathesphere under the ocean...He's a Junkie and middle aged and goes into tirades about "Never mention my father to me"...yes totally warped but actually very funny (the whole series that is)

even the opening credits are a takeoff of Johnny Quest

Hmmm, I may have to leave that one at fond memories. Something to consider, thanks, Inspector.

As for Venture Bros, do they actually call these characters by their "real" names? I guess, being a spoof, they are allowed to do that?

Race Bannon was actually referred to by name....however the character of Johnny Quest though not identified (if my memory serves me well) however he was drawn as Johnny Quest with the same hair (but grown up) unshaven and unkempt but in his telltale black sweater and in his under pants.....as I said a bit warped but I was in stitches....Obviously some one gave them the green light somewhere along the line.....

Just got Jonny Quest and checked out the first episode - Mystery of the Lizard Men.

The transfer quality is pristine. The story still held up well today. Excellent show.

Always was. Doug Wildey's artwork transfered great to the screen.
