One of the best shows on Cartoon Network is Ben-10. The cartoon is about a young boy, Ben Tennyson (Ben-10, get it--but that's not the only reason he's called that, as you shall see) who's on a vacation with his grandfather and cousin, Gwen and their ramblings in an old RV called "The Rust Bucket". Along the way, Ben sees something come out of the sky. He tracks it down and finds out it's a small object from space. The thing opensup and he finds a watch-like thingy called the Omnitrix, that once he puts it on, he can't get it off. He learns that when he twists the watch, and sees a small silhouette of an alien creature on the dial, then slams down on it, he becomes an alien creature--not necessarily THAT one that he saw (he has little control over which ones he changes to). The reason I mention this is just recently The Cartoon Network showed a live-action version of Ben-10. Called Ben-10--The Race Against Time, it was well done and quite interesting for a couple of reasons. !.. It was great seeing some of my favorite Ben-10 aliens being CGI'd on screen. The computer images worked real smooth, unlike the HULK. They seemed more "real" than others I've seen on screen. 2..Lee Majors played the role of the Grandfather, and did it rather well compared to some of his roles I've seen him in lately. 3..The movies was directed by Alex Winter. Don't know the name? Or remember it? Does Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure ring a bell??? HE was BILL!!!! Really. And he did a great job. He might've done some other things before, but this is the first of his work that I've seen and it was quite decent for a cartoon adaptation. Check your TV Guides and find out when this will be back on, because it was a lot better than some major (no pun intended) big-budget film. |

Winter's been to the well with this material before--he co-directed a B-sleeper in 1993 called Freaked, in which he stars as an obnoxious former child star who's transformed into a mutant by the owner of a sideshow, played by Randy Quaid. It's wacky and frequently hilarious stuff, and Winter's Bill & Ted co-star Keanu Reeves has a bit part as Ortiz the Dog Boy. |

Well, Freaked sure isn't. I can't vouch for the other show. |

Ben 10 is a regularly scheduled cartoon series on the Cartoon Network. The MOVIE Ben 10--Race Against Time is a live-action film BASED on the cartoon series. Both are worth the watch. |

Thanks for the news. I don't watch the Cartoon Network (I think that somebody my age that watches cartoons has something seriously amiss with 'em) but I have seen a plethora of Ben-10 products and services in the various stores this holiday season, and now I know what it is! |

I pick and choose. I don't find it comfortable to take the crap that they serve up for cartoon entertainment nowadays. I'll check out the Tom and Jerrys that Cartoon Network shows each day and watch my favorites. Ben 10 is a good show, but I only watch it once in while if nothing else is on--or I have nothing else to do. Then there are the Legion of Superheroes and Batman on Saturday mornings that I check in with if they're new--I don't watch the reruns unless it was a good show or one I missed first time 'round. Other than that.......................nothing. Can't get a good anvil dropped on the head to save my life!! |
