Hi all-

I have all of the LOONEY TUNES/MERRIE MELODIES (1930-1969) available now on DVD. 99% uncensored and with full titles. At least 95% without any network logos. If you want to inquire about this e-mail me at:
thadkomorowski@yahoo.com

Thanks.

I have this set from Thad and can vouch for it's quality. He really put some time into this. Really nice, and pretty much essential viewing for the aspiring animation historian.

Hi-
I couldn't find uncensored copies (or at least cartoons I THINK are censored) of THE PHANTOM SHIP and PORKY THE WRESTLER (this one I know is missing some sort of black character gag). So it's more like 99.9% uncut I guess.

My copy came from www.efilmic.com, but they don't have it on their website--the link usually comes via e-mail. I'll probably get one of them Thursday--so when I do, I'll post it here for you.

I have a VHS copy of SONG OF THE SOUTH that has sub-titles during the songs. Does the DVD version have these sub-titles? And, secondly, why would there be sub-titles on an English speaking version?

It's from the Japanese laserdisc where the subtitles were not optional.

The Japanese (subtitles for the songs only) and Hong Kong (no subtitles) laserdiscs were probably the last legal Disney releases of "Song of the South". I have the Japanese disc. Both of these laserdiscs have been widely pirated since and all of the DVDs floating around were almost assuredly mastered from one or the other of these or a clone of a master from one of these.

The film itself is not very good in my opinion. Most of its cachet these days comes from the fact that Disney has refused to reissue it in any form anywhere in the world despite frequent petitions and pleas.

I would agree with Jazzguyy. It is my opinion the film isn't all that good. The appearl, for me, is the songs and in particular the Uncle Remus character and the fables he tells.

It is too bad that film has been deemed racist by some. By our standards of today the way the blacks are treated is not acceptable and because of that there are some excellent songs and stories with morals lost in all of it.

This title was also at one time released in England. While visiting London several years ago, I saw a professional release of it on vhs PAL. To my knowledge, this was NEVER released on home video herer in the USA
