members, i watched the movie today---it was disney type suff[ swamp fox, scarecrow, el feugo baca] a cute adventure story [nothing too violent]. a french captain built a flying ship[ sort of like master of the world] and took a very rich industrialist , an expert on ancient greenland and a brave inuit to the place where all whales go to die[ the whale version of the elephant's graveyard]. the goal of the mission was to find the rich industrialist's son [a missing explorer]---they happen upon a lost race [ a colony of vikings]--and there the fun starts. not a bad movie--as a disney fan and a collector of fantasy flicks, i am glad i got it[ brand new from amazon ] for 12 bucks---ralph g

Was that "In Search of the Castaways"??

That was a film based on a story by Jules Verne that starred George Sanders and Maurice Chevalier from 1962.

It's been a while since I've seen it, but it sounds like the one.

....Of course, at MY age, everything sounds like "THE" one... ;)

Wow. This one hurt pulling it out of my files waaaay in the back of my head.

The movie is Island at the Top of the World from 1974, starring soon-to be host (back THEN) of the newly launched "Good Morning America", David Hartman.

**Phew**

I saw that one only once when it first came out (and haven't seen it since--but not because I didn't like it or that it was bad--which it really wasn't--but because it never came around on my stations out here...EVER!!) and improperly filed it in with all the other "lost world" movies--EXCEPT The Lost World, itself (go figure)and Journey to the Center of the Earth.

Maltin gave it two and 1/2 stars, but then, what does he know?? He's a critic and he's paid to critique, NOT to have guilty pleasures of a movie that tries, but fails to make the grade, yet is STILL entertaining in a juvenile way that captures the imagination of us all.

Course I never cared much of Hartman as an actor. I always thought he was too stiff and lacked emotion and expression.

So...is THIS guess right, Coppy?? :P :D ;)

You know what's dumb on my part, is that on my piece of crap computer, I can't read the entire title of some of these threads, plus it doesn't display ALL the posts.--I don't know why.... but I'm using a friend's computer right now, and can see the entire title, and all the posts, and now I don't feel so smart!!

Damn, 'puters!! This one's as bad as my second ex-wife!! And THAT's one big pain in the system!!

Gotta get a new one before I get a bad rep...not that I DON'T have one already!!

It makes you walk around in a Bat-suit, doesn't it?

And Alfred imbibes enough to blind himself to put up with your insanity. :P

Actually, unlike most critics, I've always considered Maltin to be one of us. I think he'd fit right in here in the Balcony.
