All I've seen is that there are very few details and pics out about this thing.

It centers on some young college-type friends who are having a party in New York City when a huge monster decides its time to take "a big bite out of the Big Apple".

The movie has scenes that are supposedly taken by one of the friends that has a camcorder and is mostly a POV film, along the lines of the Blair Witch Project.

The poster shows the Statue of Liberty in the foreground with it's head bit off and buildings along the city skyline broken with plumes of smoke billowing into the sky.

I might give it a go just because I love huge, mysterious monsters.
.........................................................................

Even though the Matthew Broderick "Godzilla" ruffled my feathers because they CALLED it "Godzilla", I soon got over it and watched it as just another giant-lizard-rampaging-through-New York City-movie.

It proved palletable in most scenes......the ones WITHOUT Broderick. :P

Giant Behemoth was a fave. Probably watched it every day for a week on the old Million Dollar Movie.

Frankly, the longer the mystery of the monster is maintained the better I'll like it. I'd rather be surprised if possible.

The Remake of Godzilla.....I kind of liked it in the theatres...especially in the Madison Square Garden sequence with the Baby Zillas hatching....however I started to rewatch it on DVD about 8 months ago.....and for some reason it fell short on many levels.....don't know why...but I thought it could have been done so much better...

There's a funny line in one of the later Japanese Godzilla movies when the Japanese high command, while talking about giant monsters, mock the Americans for thinking the Matthew Broderick Godzilla was the real one.

The Broderick Godzilla shows up in the last real Godzilla flick where real Godzilla takes on about 11 giant monsters from the past. The Broderick Godzilla was renamed something else and when Big G crushes him, the whole movie audience I was with at the Asian Film Festival burst out in applause.

Some friends of mine talked me into seeing the Broderick Godzilla when it came out and even though I was sitting practically under one of those loudspeakers I still managed to fall asleep during the film.

One of the worst films I've ever suffered through.

Although there are other threads about it around here, this is a good time to remind you giant monster fans of The Host, a tremendously entertaining Korean film. Just for th' love of pete, do NOT watch the dubbed English version. You have to see it subtitled!

I would definitely go see CLOVERFIELD, judging from the trailer I just saw:

Bonus: film features Jessica Lucas

I just got back from it. It isn't groundbreaking, but it was an effective little horror film. In a lot of ways it was old-fashioned--not much gore and it focused more on the human characters than on the monster. It also reminded me of 50's sci-fi flicks that amplified the fears of the day. Cloverfield is basically a 9-11 film disguised as a horror film.

AN IMPORTANT WARNING -- If you get dizzy/seasick easily, you may want to avoid Cloverfield. My wife nearly vomited in the theater from the shaky camera work. If you do go see it (and again, I enjoyed it), don't sit too close to the screen.

Cloverfield topped the weekend box office at #1 with a pull of over $41 mill, which they say was TWICE as much as it cost to make!!!

Not bad for an odd sort of monster flick. :D

Give it ten or twenty years and it'll be ready for the cult classic film category.

I went and saw this yesterday.....I have to admit....I liked it overall....although it started off a bit slow....once the ball started to roll it it did not really let up.
Yes it is the same style of filming as Blair Witch. aka the man with a camera.

of course it helps is the camera is a digital and not standard video.
they tried to keep the shakey cam to a minimum unless they are running or panic stricken.. and the CGI is quite seamless then again digital effects with a digital source.....

I believe it captured the fear of the unknown, or what the hell is happening?

there is a scene that is a dead on rip off of unfortunatly a real event from a video from 9/11 a scene where they run into a storefront and a wave of dust comes rolling down the street and then just swallows the street up in front of the store.

Original, not really but it has it's moments,
Suspenseful, it had it's moments and really you really don't know what is going to happen, nothing was obvious about the events that unfolded...

it will probably view better on the small screen (TV) considering it is in fact a "video"

I will probably give it a second view....

and not to give too much away but the head of the Statue of liberty does make an appearance. and it ain't on her shoulders>

and to quote GP it will probably be a cult classic in 20 years.
