The Terrytoon is "The Last Round Up" (1943). The bland title masks a fast adventure of Gandy Goose and Sour Puss furiously battling both Hitler (a pig) and Mussolino (a monkey) in a high mountaintop German fortress. The end finds our heroes toasting beer in tall German steins. It's violent, colorful, funny and talk about your political incorrectness . . . . this is a solid gem!

While some can understandably call a portion of Terry's output "bland", there are definitely many gems waiting to be discovered by cartoon fans. For those of you not well versed in Terrytoons, I highly recommend seeking out the "research" DVD collections available at http://cartoonresearch.com/garagesale.html

This one is OK. FYI, if it weren't for Jim Tyer and Bill Tytla, I wouldn't be able to watch Terrytoons at all.

When I used to attend the Saturday matinees, they used to show 3 or 4 cartoons and the kids would all sit quietly and watch them unless a Mighty Mouse cartoon appeared. When "Mighty Mouse" appeared on the screen, it was always accompanied with a lot of clapping, yelling and screaming. He was the fave then! :D

Anybody remember those photo booth-like machines that used to show you a Terrytoon for a quarter? (They were usually stocked with four, so you got your own mini-matinee for a buck.) This thread sort of jogged my memory; I thought they were pretty nifty except that the cartoons kinda sucked.

I never ran across anything like the photo type booth that had cartoons -- interesting.
I like some of the Terrytoons but not the majority. Mighty Mouse has the claim to fame of being the leading cartoon character who is on screen the least in his own cartoons . . . (because he onlyshowedup atthe end to same the mice).
I do have a soft spot for Gandy mainly because of his and Sour Puss's appealing voices. Yes, I know who they are supposed to be.
I get tired of Terrytoons "splash" sound - always the same no matter what the situation and the same bland "drumming" for gun shots. Their explosions are great tho.
Mostly I like only the cartoon shorts before 1945.
