I vote for Ygor in Son of Frankenstein (1939). I love the way he explains that they hung him because he robbed graves... "Uh... they SAID." |

I'm a sucker for his Dracula performance (sucker...get it???) Although there were some creepy images in The Mark Of The Vampire, but not his performance as a hole in that film (hole...get it ????) |

I'm going to go with the traditional Dracula. No actor before or since has really captured the imaginations of viewers about the count. His portrayal has become iconic. Ironically, my favorite of his Dracula performances is in "Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein", a comedy with elements of horror. Bela's Ygor comes neckxt (next) and then Roxor. Although I really loved his cameo in Ninocthka as the Russian official. |

I like Bela's Dr. Vitus Verdegast in The Black Cat (1934). "Superstitious...perhaps. Baloney...perhaps not. There are many things under the sun." |

That's a tough question! I find something enjoyable in all of Bela's roles. I really liked him as Dr. Vollin in THE RAVEN, where, paired up again with Boris, gives a fine performance as the insane love-besotted surgeon with a penchant for Edgar Allan Poe toys. Probably not as good as BLACK CAT from the year before, but right up there.

I haven't watched the original Dracula in, oh, maybe 15 years. They watched it one FNF night about nine years ago when I was absent on a trip to New York, and the report I received back, "It was so BORING", is just about right. My memory of that film is that all the good stuff happens off-screen, save for Renfield, who saves the picture. |

It may not have been his "best", but I did enjoy him in " You'll find out" with Karloff and Lorre |
