Louisiana Purchase... based on the hit Broadway musical, songs by Irving Berlin. So, after a brief introductory number, the next song appears at the 48 min. mark! Typical Broadway-to-Hollywood meddling...

Never saw that, but I'll look for it. It's always a treat when Gracie sings. She's a whole lot wilder than she looks.

I'm currently about 1/3 of the way into Louisiana Purchase (1941) with Bob Hope and Maxie Rosenbloom. That guy who plays the loudmouthed house dick in Room Service is a crooked cop in this one. I love that guy, who appears to be in comedy features what Anthony Warde or Ed Cobb is in serials: in nearly all of 'em! I guess I could look up his name, but I just always think of him as the "Jumping BUTTERBALLS!" guy.

Okay, gonna get some more coffee, an Asian Pear, and then back to th' movie. BBL, Balconeers! ( By the way, if you haven't already, check out that cool Superman ad I posted last night at www.inthebalcony.com ).

I didn't even have to go to the IMDb. It's Donald MacBride, who I mentioned in the previous Gracie Allen post.

Well, I knew YOU guys would know. I'll still always think of him as "Jumping BUTTERBALLS!"

Guess who pops up In Louisiana Purchase? Iris "The Spider's Web" Meredith and Kay "Perils of Nyoka" Aldridge! Go figger!

I enjoyed the sixth episode of Wild Wild West's first season last evening. Even though the first season is in black and white, I'm enjoying this even more than I anticipated. ;)

I topped the evening off with Charlie Chan at the Olympics, one of the better Chan's IMO. The one thing that struck me odd about this one was the circus music introduction during the credits before the movie began. I had to get up and check the DVD case to make sure I hadn't mistakenly inserted Charlie Chan at the Circus, which is also included in set #2, even though the title screen read "Olympics".

I finished up Ghost Breakers (1940) and found it okay, but not nearly as good as The Cat and the Canary. An awful lot of Hope's quips fall flat. Maybe 3 tickets out of 5.

It is worth it for Willie Best, besides Paul Lukas does his famous Bela Lugosi impression :D

True, those are both good selling points for the film.
