Fantastic! Start with the best. The only release date info I have seen is "early 2017".

Kino Lorber said on Facebook that this and Daredevils are the only two that Paramount has provided to them. Hopefully more will follow.

It's a solid start. Two of the best serials, IMHO. Hopefully the elements provided to Kino are on a par with the excellent COMMANDO CODY release. I realize that one is from Olive, but if these compare in picture/sound quality, serial fans are in for a treat.

So...just received an email with the latest offerings from Grapevine and one new selection stands out...a Blu-Ray release of THE ADVENTURES OF CAPTAIN MARVEL.

Huh? I thought Kino was releasing this serial on Blu. Is that not the case anymore?

Is this serial not owned by anyone, and if so, how is Grapevine able to do this?

There have been several public domain releases of this over the years, but I dunno of it's actually PD.

I'm waitin' for the Kino release, though.

That's the safe choice because it will be from Republic source materials not a pirated laserdisc or 16mm copy.

I don't think it's PD. I think it's like all the other serials, whether they're PD or not. In the past, the studios haven't cared.

I wonder if Paramount will crack down now that they're actually having these released.

I find it interesting that it will be released at all. If I understand correctly, Warner Bros. owns the Captain Marvel character as a result of a lawsuit that D.C. Comics won years ago over the character essentially being a steal from Superman. In that case, Warner would be in a position to block the release. I assume they aren't for the same reason they didn't block Columbia (Sony) from releasing the Batman serials on DVD.

I thought I had read somewhere that the official DVD releases for the Superman/Batman serials were a concerted effort and Warners actually worked with Sony in releasing the Batman serials.

As for the Captain Marvel serial, DC is planning a live action Captain Marvel film, so the publicity of a Blu-Ray release couldn't hurt, especially considering this is one of the best sound serials (IMHO).

Didn't the release of the Columbia Batman serials happen around the time of a Warner Batman film release? As you said, Bats, any exposure of a character is good exposure.

Yes, I believe the Batman serials were released around the time that BATMAN BEGINS was going into theatres. Just as the Superman serials were released in conjunction with the theatrical debut of SUPERMAN RETURNS.
