For me, a dream come true. Mizoguchi is the greatest Japanese director, according to Kurosawa, Ozu, and practically all the critics. And here -- pow! -- four movies impossible to find anywhere else. It's called the "Fallen Women" series. Like most Eclipse boxes, a must-buy. OSAKA ELEGY SISTERS OF THE GION STREET OF SHAME WOMEN OF THE NIGHT On preorder from Amazon it's $40 plus change. I'm really psyched about this because I just bought two Mizoguchi boxes from the British "Masters of Cinema" series and there are no overlaps. Good, good movies with a feminist slant. |
