The folks who gave us that wonderful Harry Langdon: Lost and Found and the American Slapstick DVDs are preparing a boxed set of early Charley Chase comedies.

More details: http://www.charley-chase.com/.

Alas, Dick and Doof als Einbrecher is going for 87 Euros these days (about $130.00), so Charley's out of our reach for now.

I got a very nice letter from Yair Solan, Charley Chase's #1 fan, in appreciation of my own support of Mr. Chase and the Slapstick Sundays feature we now run In The Balcony.

I urge all Balconeers and Balconettes to visit http://www.charley-chase.com for a celebration of Charley and his comedies.

The Charley Chase set has been delayed... but you can hear the music that the wonderful, fabulous, marvelous Snark Ensemble have done for it at http://www.snarkensemble.org/.

From Classic Flix.com;

Becoming Charley Chase which had been set for release this coming
Tuesday has been indefinitely postponed. Speaking directly with David
Kalat of All Day Entertainment, he cited lackluster sales in All Day's
recent silent releases as the reason for not moving forward at this
time.

All purchases for Becoming Charley Chase have been refunded.

Last nite I attended the Hollywood Heritage Museum's monthly presentation. During the program, they passed out a flyer regarding Charley's Columbia shorts. Seems they have all been restored, BUT Sony is somewhat dubious about issuing them as they feel there wouldn't be a large enough market to warrant it.

I've heard mixed reports about Charley's work at Columbia and, personally, I thought his silent work was much funnier than the sound shorts produced at Roach. On the other hand, I always feel that efforts like this are definitely worth supporting.

If you feel the same way, go out to the following web site & sign their petition:
