In the early 1980s I saw in a theater in St. Louis a restored version of a silent movie called NAPOLEON and it was shown all over the country. Apparently it's been withheld from distribution since because of some sort of music issue. Does anyone know where I could get a copy of this on DVD?

It's available in Europe on DVD, but there has been no official release in the U.S.

I once saw a Dutch version of the DVD on Amazon for sale. There are greymarket copies available that have been transfered from VHS sets or the laserdisc. I don't think any of them are the nearly 6-hour long version, though.

I'll look into it. A laserdisc transfer would be great, but I want the one with the same music score that was featured in the theaters. I'll make sure and let ya'l know which is which. Thanks!

Wikipedia covers the Napoleon restorations and the mired situation over exhibition rights here. Apparently Francis Ford Coppola maintains that he controls those rights, and they require use of his late father's musical score.
