The Cisco Kid (Duncan Renaldo) returns to his boyhood village to battle George J. Lewis, who has set himself up in a pretty sweet deal as a government-sanctioned bully. Cisco takes the place of Lewis' superior officer, murdered on the road to town, and romances a pretty saloon singer while he mops up the bad guys. Pancho eats a lot of fruit and nuts, drinks a lot of wine, and occasionally helps out.

I thought this was one of the better Cisco Kid movies I've seen, and it's helped a lot by the fact that the print and transfer on the VCI DVD are terrific, the best I've seen for this series. A fun little 61-min. feature (a second Cisco Kid movie, The Girl from San Lorenzo, is included). The two movies have different Panchos.

Trivia: Lambert Hillyer, the director, has two films called South of the Rio Grande on his resume. The other one is an early '30s Buck Jones western. Weird, eh? I wonder which one was souther?
