:D Tasty!

In 8 Simple Rules - Halloween, James Garner says he plans to 'settle down and watch The Great Escape'; when David Spade says he prefers The Dirty Dozen, Garner says,

'That's a chick-flick'!

I wouldn't expect you ALL to understand! :D

Over the course of the last month I have watched all 24 episodes of 1971's The Persuaders!. The show features Tony Curtis as American millionaire Danny Wilde and Roger Moore as the upper crust Lord Brett Sinclair. I remember watching this show as a kid when it was first broadcast, but hadn't seen an episode since. I've always enjoyed Tony Curtis' breezy screen personna, but was never a huge Moore fan, unfairly pinning the decline of Mr. Bond on him. The show also includes an interesting theme written by John Barry (also of 007 fame) that I wasn't crazy about at first, but it really grew on me after a few episodes.

I had read somewhere that Tony and Roger did not get along personally, which may have been one of the reasons that the show only lasted one season. But if this were true it didn't translate to the screen. They seemed to really enjoy working together and their charisma is the highlight of the show. The best part for me though was enjoying the cars, fashions and hair styles of the day and wondering how anyone ever thought they were "cool". One particular set of gawd-awful lamps with orange and green shades were used in at least 6 different sets throughout the series. Somebody in props really liked those ugly lamps!

Roger Moore and Tony Curtis actually got on very well together - Curtis would ad lib all the time, so they relied on Moore to stick to the script to help move the story along.

Curtis disliked Joan Collins and called her a *very* rude name beginning with a 'c'! :D

She told everyone on the set - he called me a c***!

Moore told Curtis,

'That wasn't very nice',

and suggested he send her flowers.

Curtis used to call Moore,

'Dear sweet Roger'! :D

It's all in Roger Moore's very funny book!

andarius,
Thanks for the info from Moore's perspective. It certainly looked like they were having fun making the series. It wasn't the most original program ever made, but it is solid, light-hearted entertainment that was well worth watching again after so many years.

Most welcome, cinemalover - I wonder if any friction is noticeable in Curtis' and Collins' scenes together? :D

I'd have to go back and review that episode (with Collins). Since I watched 24 episodes in a few weeks they tend to run together a bit. I believe her character was pretty pushy and abrasive so it may have been a case of perfect typecasting.

:D Curtis had to drive a truck down a hill to a stream with Joanie in it - they decided to reshoot and told Curtis to drive the truck back up the hill - Joanie got out and Curtis asked her what she was doing - Joanie said she was going to walk back up the hill and Curtis said,

'You're a c***'!

Moore, who had been away from the set, heard from Curtis there had been trubble - he asked Curtis what happened and Curtis said,

'I called her a c***'! :D

Moore said,

'That wasn't very nice'!

It isn't very nice but I laughed out loud when I read it in Roger Moore's book!
