I watched Roy Roger's Come On Rangers last night. The basic plot revolves around the Governor of Texas disbanding Roy's Texas Rangers due to budgetary constraints, or lack of pork fat. A state senator leaps into the breech with a band of thugs and the old protection racket, where if you don't pay for their protection, it's almost certain something bad will happen to you. Apparently crooked politicians aren't a new phenomenon. The governor asks for federal assistance and the U.S. Cavalry is sent to his aid, but natch, the cavalry just isn't up to the task at hand. Meanwhile, Roy becomes a fugitive, but in the end he and the defunct Rangers save the day and the governor miraculously finds enough funds to reinstate them. I think I've seen Wild Bill Elliott a victim of a very similar plot, so it was apparently a Republic favorite.

I have to agree. I liked Roy much better before he became encumbered with Dale Evans, Pat Brady and Bullet. He was still OK with Gabby Hayes and some early Dale's though, IMO.
