Three questions about the films of L&H: Is their only film with "West" in the title, Way Out West (1937)? If not, what is/are the other(s)? Are any of these available on DVD? Thanks, in advance. |

Off the top of my head, I cannot think of another Laurel & Hardy film with "West" in the title. Stan Laurel was in a solo film called "West of Hot Dog", and Oliver Hardy was once teamed with Billy West, though... |

Yes, but it's a lousy transfer unless you get an import. |

Thanks, Rodney. It's actually for an older lady, who is a big L&H fan. This is one of the titles she is dying to see again, but can't seem to find on DVD. Now I know why. |

Someone has come to the Batman's rescue and supplied me with a beautiful copy of the import release of the film. A big thank you to my anonymous friend. |

Speaking of L&H, around 1968 my friends and I went to a storefront film society in San Francisco to see SONS OF THE DESERT and WAY OUT WEST. It was the first time any in our group saw either film. The place only held about 30 people, and we sat in director's chairs, each one had the name of a famous director on the back. In WAY OUT WEST Stan and Ollie try to break into Jimmy Finlayson's saloon in the middle of the night, and of course things do not go smoothly. Adding to the hilarity was the person sitting in front of me had a laugh that sounded like a dog barking. It went "Arf arf arf." We were laughing not only at the film, but at his laugh. We were laughing so hard, our stomachs hurt. It was the hardest any of us laughed in our lives, and was one of the two most memorable evenings I ever spent in a movie theater, the other was "An Evening With Batman and Robin" a couple of years earlier. I pictured Stan and Ollie hovering over the showing watching with great satisfaction. |
