Is F.W. Murnau's Sunrise available on commercial DVD, and if so, from whom? (I hope I used the right one, Frank)

Igsy, thanks for the info. Once I checked out the link, I realized I have had a Bat-brain cramp, as I already own the movie.

Even worse, I have already watched it.

Thanks for the post, however.

When Fox started releasing those numbered "Studio Classics" (in the white boxes) a few years ago, if you purchased a certain number of them you could mail in for a "bonus" DVD, Sunrise. Later, the film was also released in the boxed set with three other Oscar winners (the box linked to in this thread). I don't think it's ever been released as a stand alone disc, although some Amazon sellers have copies for sale. Pricey ones!

On Dec. 9, that mega Murnau, Borzage and Fox Box Set (the $239 one) goes on sale.

That's how I ended up with my copy, turning in the proofs-of-purchase from other Fox discs (I think they were All About Eve, The Ox-Bow Incident and My Darling Clementine). There's also a Region 2 version available:

One commenter says it's a better print than the Fox version, but I decided in the end that it wasn't something I positively had to have.

My three proofs of purchase were from The Day the Earth Stood Still, The Mark of Zorro and the 1953 version of Titanic.

One of the best movies I ever saw, but like all Murnau, better on the big screen. Murnau's CITY GIRL also gets the coveted Panzer five tickets. THE LAST LAUGH has gotten great press over the years, but it put me to sleep.

Well, yeah, Mr. P., but you've told me before, "I HATE that movie" and then when I tell you I liked it you say, "Well, I last saw it in 1961." So just out of curiosity... When did you last see The Last Laugh, one of the greatest movies I've ever seen?!?

I have The Last Laugh on rent fron Netflix, but I've yet to watch it. Most of the stuff I've read about it give it boffo reviews.

Well heck, Cliff, it put me to sleep, literally: kinda hard to give it top priority. OK, OK, I'll put it on top of my queue. Nag, nag, nag.
