TCM just aired Orphans of the Storm with the Gish sisters directed by D.W. Griffith. Tremendous story of sister (Lillian) searching for her dear sister of a another mother (Dorothy) who is blind amidst the backdrop of the French Revolution, the storming of the Bastille and the Reign of Terror. Beautifully told story showing how powerful silent films can be. Impossibly young Joseph Schildkraut as a sympathetic aristocrat and Monte Blue as the French patriot, Danton in rare heroic roles. One of Blue's best roles ever. Look for a young Boris Karloff as one of the soldiers who arrest Lillian at one point.

Tied with Lady of the Pavements as my second-favorite Griffith picture. The favorite will always be Intolerance, but Orphans is more fun.
Life is just a bowl of cherries, it's too mysterious, don't take it serious...
