The Clint Walker series is coming to the Westerns channel in Jan. With this and Maverick on perhaps the other WB westerns, Lawman, Colt 45, etc. may show up.

I noticed that they dumped the Rifleman.

Now if they can do something about Bat Masterson, the world will be a brighter place.

This IS Encore Westerns you're talking about? Right??

Don't they show both of 'em like twice a day, back-to-back? It's not like those 2 shows were on as long as Gunsmoke...ya gotta be gettin't o the same episodes after what a month or 2?
It's like Rodney King used to say, "Can't we all get a bong."

Their schedule was Gene Autry, Bat Masterson, Big Valley, Rifleman, Maverick in the morning.

In the afternoon it was much the same except AFTER Maverick they showed TWO Rifleman eps. and then their evening movie.

Yeah....it really got to be dull after a while.

As it is now, the Maverick episodes are nearing the end with the BRENT--Robert Colbert--episodes.

This season is the one where they tried everything to keep it together with Beau, Brent and Bart, but the first two just didn't catch on.

When James Garner didn't come back, Jack Kelly had to do the final season alone with some reruns of earlier shows with Garner.

Either they're going to rerun maverick, or remove it from the stable and replace it with something else.

Great news!

I just downloaded from one of the usenet groups the 1st 2 seasons of LAWMAN as taken from the Goodtimes Network. I could use upgrades and non-edited versions of same.
I'm very anxious to see if episodes of COLT .45 are as enjoyable as I recall from childhood.

As for CHEYENNE - along with MAVERICK, SUGARFOOT, BRONCO, RAWHIDE, WANTED: DEAD OR ALIVE and GUNSMOKE, it remains my all time favorite TV Western series. I have the box set CHEYENNE - THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON that came out a couple of years ago. Until I received that set I had no idea that L.Q. Jones was Cheyenne Bodie's sidekick "Smitty" for the first few episodes. Wish they'd release more sets of the entire series run.
Box sets have already been released on RAWHIDE, WANTED: DEAD OR ALIVE, and GUNSMOKE- why not release box sets of each season of all of the Warner Bros. western and detective series?

GP (he of the cool avatar) mentioned that the Encore Western Channel is down to the Robert Colbert era of MAVERICK - until that season's episodes began airing this week, I'd never seen this bird before. They were never part of the original episodes offered for syndication -or at least, they never aired in rerun in any part of the country I ever lived in.
I can see why.
He's no Bret, Bart or even Beau Maverick.

First time I saw Colbert associated with the series was last month when he appeared in a Bart (Jack Kelly) Maverick episode, "Hadley's Hunters". Colbert appears as a character called "Cherokee Dan Evans". In that episode as described by an IMDB contributor: "Bart is framed for several crimes by crooked Sheriff (Edgar Buchanan) Hadley and his deputy (George Kennedy), who (along with Bob Wilke) force him to take part in their racket--hunting down and killing innocent men, then claiming they're outlaws and collecting the reward. Bart turns bounty hunter in an effort to expose the corrupt lawmen's scheme and asks for help from several of his friends (all of whom are stars of other contemporary Warner Bros. TV western series, making cameo appearances)."

The cameos are by John Russell, Peter Brown, Ty Hardin, and Clint Walker -all of whom appear to have been inserted from promotional clips of their respective tv series. Fanfare from each of the series themes are also featured.

I remember Colbert from Time Tunnel. Would've been cool if he took the tunnel to the past to the wild west and "posed" as a Maverick.

Somehow he just didn't look right in the Maverick clothes. He seemed out of place.

.................or is that out of time?

Official Answers:
1. CHEYENNE all-day marathon on New Year's Day to kick off the celebration. Westerns Channel will be playing the entire first season and the first few episodes of season two before the end of the 24 hours.
2. Starting the first Monday of January, They will play one CHEYENNE every day in chronological order beginning with episode one. Yep, that means if you record or watch all the episoes during the 24 hour marathon, you'll have to wait till early February before you catch up to where you left off since they're playing the episodes again. (Why they don't start in the middle of the second season where they left off in the marathon I do not know.)
3. They should have all 104 episodes aired at least once by late May or early June. Whether they play the one episode of THE CHEYENNE SHOW that doesn't have Clint Walker is not yet known. (It was a pilot for the kick-butt TV western, THE DAKOTAS.)
4. BAT MASTERSON and THE RIFLEMAN will be removed from the lineup starting January 1. In their place will be two episodes of MAVERICK instead of one, and CHEYENNE takes MAVERICK's place.
5. LAWMAN begins in the summer. What shows they start after that I do not know. They are contracted with WB to do Warner Westerns but "apparently" not all of them. THE DAKOTAS is not on the list for future airings. Course, there was only 17 episodes plus the pilot so they would end up airing them all within a month anyway. Too few episodes for reruns. I bought a set from Rodney of the Complete DAKOTAS and I do recommend it. A notch above CHEYENNE but still not as good as THE REBEL and HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL.

Hope this clarifies things.

Would like to see the Rebel again. Along with the original Johnny Western "Johnny Yuma" music. I saw an episode in syndication which looked pretty good EXCEPT they changed the music for some vapid stuff most likely for copyright reasons.

Have Gun Will Travel is an excellent show I'd also like to see again on free tv.

Thank you for the info, shelbyvinje.

Hopefully we'll get to see THE DAKOTAS on the Westerns Channel sometime in the not too distant future.
I've always wanted to own the complete run of that series -mostly because of Jack Elam.

He always looked great in that pin-stripe gunfighter outfit.

Jack Elam was a multi-faceted actor. He could play the nastiest bastiche on earth in some westerns--and some non-westerns as well.

.....But he could also play the funniest character you'd ever bust a gut over.

Whichever he was, he was ALWAYS a treat to watch on the screen. :D
