This one isn't avalible on DVD, and some people say that this film is lost or destroyed made me very sad because it stars none other then the great Greta Garbo!! :$ :$

For those of you who want to see this, I found the entire film on YouTube! I can't wait to cast my eyes on her! ;) :$

Definitely not lost. You can find the R1 version of this film on “The Garbo Silents Collection” disc of The Greta Garbo Signature Collection. It includes an alternate “happy” ending for rural audiences.

Hot stuff!

Since I'm only moreless a movie collector wannabe, I'm not at all embarassed to ask what an R1 version of a title is? I've seen titles referred to as R1, R2, R3 and R4 in the past and always wondered what that meant.

R1, R2, etc. refer to DVD region codes. Different parts of the world have different region codes and a disc will normally only play in a player with the same region code. R1 is North America. R2 is Europe and Japan. R4 is Australia. A R0 or region free disc will play in all players.

There are are also players available or which can be hacked so you can change the region code or which will play all region codes.

Damm, I wish I had a Region 1 player or all region one!

The one sold in Britain is the Warner Brothers set with Ninotchka, Queen Christina, Anna Karenina, Camille, Mata Hari and Anna Christie.

The other one is Grand Hotel, but that is in the Joan Crawford set.

Thanks Marlin. I might not have been embarassed to ask, but now I'm embarassed to admit I hadn't figured that out for myself, since I was aware of the different regions and even recently purchased an all region player. Posted Image

Or you can hack the player you have. Just Google the name of the player you have and add the phrase "unlock code".

Example: Sony 1127-HD unlock code

It isn't hard -- I did it!

I was going to try that, but was afraid I'd really screw it up, so I just went out and bought another one. They're cheap. A lot cheaper than the VHS/DVD recorder/player I was afraid I'd screw up. It really works, huh?

Yeah, but not every player will do it. I have a new DVD/VHS recorder/player that nobody's figured out a hack for yet. I can only hope.
