Here's the deal... we want to name the new mascot of our Saturday morning funnybook readings. You know, this guy: So send an email to balconymailbag (one word) at yahoo.com and put FUNNYBOOK CONTEST in the subject line and then in the body of the email put your suggested name for this guy: ...and your name and mailing address. The contest prize: a few years ago, DC Comics published a complete cover-to-cover reprint of the BATMAN ANNUAL #1 from the early 1960s, 80 pages of non-stop Caped Crusader action. You can own a brand-new copy of this lovely funnybook for your very own! All entries must be received by FEBRUARY 17, 2009 and then our judges will pick the finalists and post 'em here in the Balcony for our Balconeers to vote on and then we'll award the winner. I know I'm not the only one who's won a contest and never received the advertised prize. Then there's also the CD's he was going to give the top (I've forgetten how many, now) posters. That's been so long ago, I've forgotten what was supposed to be on it too. I wonder if anyone has ever received any prizes from The Balcony?

With that "they" being me. I was the lucky winner of the first In The Balcony contest, and I received my prize (a DVD copy of Junior G-Men of the Air) in the mail, within a month of winning. In addition, I won the second (or third) contest, as well. No collusion, I assure you. I assume being that it was the early days of The Balcony there just weren't that many members yet, leaving my chances for a double win a better bet. As for that second prize, a set of AFI postcards (I believe), they also arrived within a month of winning. I haven't won a contest since (hmmm...) so I can't speak to the efficiency of The Balcony Prize Dept. these days.

I, too, cannot remember what was supposed to be on the CDs. It has been at least a year-and-a-half, since LG first made the announcement regarding the CDs. Large Marge must have eaten whomever was running The Balcony Promotions/Prize Dept.

I was 16th or 17th then and comin' on strong, but I remember GP lamenting about not having received his. That's why I remembered at all. Maybe Gravy's planning on outliving the rest of you too.
