When the Caliph is betrayed and murdered by his best friend, who turns him over to the invading Mongols, the Caliph's young son is forced to flee Bagdad, to return 10 years later with a band of two score thieves, to vanquish the infidels and win the hand of Maria Montez. Well, the hand and any other parts he can a-get a-hold of.

There were six Maria Montez-Jon Hall Technicolor adventure films produced by Universal in the 1940s, and I've seen five of 'em, and I love 'em all. I love this one just as much, and Scotty Beckett plays the young Ali and Andy Devine, of all people, is his mentor. Turhan Bey is around as Ms. Montez' faithful servant. The FNF crowd loved it.

And in case you forgot what Maria Montez looked like, here's a brief glimpse of her in the film. Ahem.

Always knew there was a couple of things about Ms. Montez that I always admired.

Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves is a long-time favorite. Great action and another fine villainous turn by Kurt Katch (aka the Scorpion from Don Winslow of the Navy).

Absolutely: one of the best pictures ever of its kind, and Miss Montez's talents are, um, outstanding.
