The STEVE CANYON TV series is coming out on DVD in three volumes. I have the first volume and the picture quality is magnificent, as well as the audio commentaries and extras. And they have the original network commercials! Dig that! Now the question comes is why is volume two late? The estate of Milton Caniff has expressed the following press release which I am reprinting hoping others who always wait till the DVDs are released before buying them decide to pre-order instead: Yes, Volume 2 is late. There are several reasons for this. The main one being we have had to wait on the availability of several of our "star" commentators due to illness involving hospitalization (and other health related factors). Everyone is all right, but we just haven't been able to complete the commentaries (that MUST go on Volume 2) until this week. These commentaries we have for Vol 2 are SO GOOD and interesting that I think you will be amazed at the amount of information and anecdotes there are.??*Note the picture below of actprs Richard Anderson and Sylvia Lewis taken just after our recording session for OPERATION B-52. We have also spent some time in investigating improvements in the picture and sound quality, and we want to thank everyone for their kind comments and praise for our work thus far. We want everyone to have the best experience possible enjoying STEVE CANYON. The final issue is money. Pre-orders on Volume 2 have been less than a third of what they were for Volume 1...probably due to the economic scare going on at present...but at this level there is concern we might not recoup our expenses on the whole project (which are considerable). ?And what that really means is that we and our property are personally at risk at this point. Sad but true. What we really need?at this juncture is for those that are able to pre-order Volume 2 to do so now instead of putting off and waiting until it is finished and released within the next several weeks. YES, it will be done and shipped (and so will the remaining Vol 3 this summer), there is no question of that, so have no fear...and every one of you that have ordered from us since the beginning we THANK YOU heartily for your support. |

Update. Volume 2 comes out May 15 and volume 3 will be released before the end of the year. Tons of bonus extras, audio commentary from such luminaries as Richard Anderson and the part that makes me REALLY happy . . . Ray Bradbury wrote two television scripts for the series and FINALLY one of them is being put to DVD and it's the Christmas episode! |

Thanks for the kind words Shelby...though Bradbury only wrote one episode for the series and the Christmas episode is it. |

After all three volumes have been released, are there plans for a Complete Series release, like many other series are doing? |

Yes. We plan on packaging all three volumes into one...but they will still be available as individual volumes (as far as I know at this time) and we have plans for a slipcase cover to be available to hold all three. I just about spit my milk across the room when they told me how much each slipcase was going to cost (as much as one entire 2 disc volume costs, if you can believe that!)...so we will see what it all comes to in the end. Perhaps we can wrap bailing wire and chewing gum around the 3 volumes and call it a "special aviation edition"... |

Thanks, Steve. It may be too early to answer this, but do you know if this "complete series" set will be cheaper in price than the individual sets? I have been burned many times, when cheaper complete sets were offered of TV series, after I had paid more for the individual seasons. It would be nice to know that for once my holding off will net me a savings. |

Thanks for the question, and sorry for the delay in answering. We have no plans at this time to offer the complete set at a discount. Things may change quite a ways down the road, but not likely the way things are at present and the foreseeable future. You can always say, "remember me" and "you said this" in an email...will likely get you a pleasing result. I'm not known to be a hardass with these kind of things... |

Actually Bat you've already come out ahead. Those of us who got in early have the added expense of the Special Edition. Not that I'm really complaining. When the Special Edition was released it wasn't a given that the series would make it to DVD any time soon. And if the profits helped get the first volume released then it was money well spent. |

I ordered the first volume of this show and received it a few days ago. I had forgotten that Steve Canyon was on TV during the '58/'59 seasons. I thought it probably was aimed towards the Saturday morning kids programming but since it was sponsored by Chesterfield cigrettes I guess it was intended to be an adult program. The 30-minute episodes come complete with the original commercials which is alway interesting to me to look back at the style of advertising fifty years ago. Man was smoking the in the thing to do!!! Since the DVD is marketed by the Milton Caniff estate you would expect the quality to be crisp and it is. The story lines are , by todays standards really vanilla, but is interesting to see what type of programing the U.S. Air Force and the aircraft industry thought was worth promoting. There are three volumes in the series. I bought the first just see what I was getting. I will order the rest eventually.
