One of the curses of aging is waking up in the middle of the night & not being able to immediately go back to sleep. However, this failing has a positive point. I get to see some VERY interesting TV. Last nite (actually it was this morning) I was surfing the cable and paused on the Cartoon Network. As part of their “Adult Swim” programming, they were showing an episode of FAMILY GUY. I’ve seen this program before and always loved the interjections of humor which have nothing to do with the ongoing plot. Sort of like Will Elder doing animation. The episode I viewed was a satire (lampoon, whatever…) of STAR WARS. It was hilarious and spot on. Included John Williams & his orchestra being burned to death (mercifully off-screen) & Luke Skywalker beheading Danny Elfman (on-screen) with his light sabre. FAMILY GUY was immediately followed by ROBOT CHICKEN… which as far as I could tell had absolutely nothing to with a chicken or a robot once the credits finished rolling. It utilized stop-motion & action figure dolls. It was similar to FAMILY GUY in that it was a series of unrelated interjections which had nothing to with the plot. But, since there was NO plot, it was just one unrelated satirical (& funny) bit after another. On IMDB the program is described as “television especially formulated for the Attention Deficit Disorder generation.” Hey, count me in!! |

My sleepless hours this morning brought me an episode of Cheyenne and a pretty good one of Maverick. I found it odd that in both, the town sheriff was the villain. |

I was told I had this when I was 15. It was a polite way of calling me thick. |

Another good thing about that dilemma, is that you don't have to go and drag your ass around work. I've seen The Family Guy, and it is a funny show. My wife and son watch this show religiously. Once when they were watching it, I was passing thru the living room. Peter, the main character, made a comment about how his chin looked like testicles. I just laughed my ass off (I don't know why I'm faced with all the genitalia humor lately). Here, see if this helps... ![]() I've never seen Robot Chicken. I've also seen Aqua Teen, a weird cartoon with a talking milkshake, talking carton of french fries with a satanic face, and a talking meatball. Very weird, but it made me laugh. Another funny cartoon is Venture Bros., it was extolled on this board by Ignatz and Gravy. I'm glad Mike Judge dropped Beavis And Butthead and started making King Of The Hill. It's funny, and has some quirky characters, but it's not as crude as many of the adult cartoons on the air. Plus it usually has heart and a message. I think my weird sense of humor comes from spending many adolescent days reading National Lampoon magazine. |

Robot Chicken is one of my few guilty pleasures. There have been some episodes that made just pee myself.... Okay...I'm just using that as a reason why I did pee mysef at the time. Normally it just happens without anything funny going on. Another of my guilty pleasures is Courage the Cowardly Dog (totally whacked), Ben 10, and Ben 10--Alien Force (the first is when he's about 10 years old, the second when he's a few years older). Aqua Teen I can watch or not...no great shakes as far as humor. |

Not sure if it has been mentioned yet, but another real funny is MOREL OREL, a sick take-off of the old Davey & Goliath shows. Evil and f-cking funny. |

I've never given it a 2nd thought, until that night I was passin' thru the room. I'm convinced it was drawn that way, purposely from the start. |

I'm pretty sure it was, too. And he was named "Peter" on purpose, as well. Juvenile humour. Funny stuff. |

The best Adult Swim show, THE VENTURE BROS., had Season 3 released on DVD today. |

What tickles your risibilities?? Obviously, different strokes for different folks. Last night I laughed long and continuously at the FAMILY GUY episode which was aired. It involved Peter's infatuation with the song "Surfing Bird" (" A-well-a everybody's heard about the bird, B-b-b-bird, bird, bird, b-bird's the word"). He plays it & sings it continuously (even in his sleep)... &, in the process, drives everyone crazy!! Why I found this so funny is anybody's guess. Maybe it's just that the song, itself, is so damn stupid... or maybe it was that manic look on Peter's face as he continuously repeated the lyrics to all & sundry!! |

Robot Chicken: Always at least one fall-out-of-the-chair moment per episode to counter the near-misses or over-stretched bits. Everything else seems to require chemical intake, except for the late, great Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law. The perfect blend of strangeness, tastelessness and warped Saturday morning nostalgia. I wonder if anybody under 40 got even half the references. |

Last nite ROBOT CHICKEN did a satire of SPEED RACER. Incredibly funny as Speed takes a "short-cut" thru the stands holding the audience. |

Here's my Family Guy/Surfin' Bird/Stony story: a few months ago, like Peter, I went through a Surfin' Bird phase. I was singing and playing the song on Youtube everyday. One day I called my 13 year old son into the room and played the song for him. In a ho-hum fashion, he told me he knew the song. When I asked him how he knew it, he told me it was on Family Guy. So after mort's synopsis, I guess my son knew the song better than I imagined. |
