Sorry Todd I thought Wolverine sucked and she was awful. But that's only my opinion. |

Well, yes the film did suck, royally, but I thought she did a pretty good job with the part she was given, but then again I'm sucker for brunettes with big soulful eyes |

I honestly can barely remember any of the performances in Wolverine. Not sure if that's creeping senility or the fact the film was so blah it barely made an impression beyond Hugh Jackman and a couple of action scenes. Hayden Christiansen really sucked the life out of the Anakin character in the last Star Wars films. His "dramatic" scene with the Princess where he cried had the entire audience including me laughing at his poor acting. Not the response I think they were going for. Casting seems based on previous appearances in sci fi/fantasy genre productions than actual acting chops. Too bad. |

No, it's probably trying to repress the painful memories of this film. But going back to the whole Kitsch/Collins issue for a moment, on a lot of message boards concerning the film, I'm now seeing postings from fans of the actors, especially Kitsch's Friday Night Lights fans, who are expressing excitement over the casting but admitting they've never read the books. To me that means these people really don't care how the movie turns out or if it is faithful, just as long as Taylor Kitsch is playing John Carter. ( I almost expect before he was cast, you mention John Carter to these people and they would think Noah Wyle.) The fact that his other film credits are such craptaculars like The Convenet and Snakes on a Plane doesn't instill confidence either. While I can understand if both delivered outstanding screen tests, considering I'm hearing everyone from Jon Hamm of Mad Men to even Stephen Moyer of True Blood (who actually fits the description from the novel) had tried out, it seems Disney overrode any attempts to get the right people and just went this route hoping to get these people for who the books never mattered, while leaving fans of the books left with an unfaithful and unsatisfying movie. |

I've seen Kitsch in Friday Night Lights where his part requires him to be the 'bad boy' but good-at-heart. He's always in trouble, he's moody and dour all the time and he never seems to get out of it. So, that's his part. He does it pretty well, I guess, but what else can he do? He might be fine in John Carter, it's impossible for me to tell from watching him in a show where he plays a border-line alcoholic, troubled kid. I hope he'll great as John Carter, because we need a good John Carter movie. |

We do. I just have my doubts once Stanton and Disney get done with it if we'll get it. |

It's been a long time since I read the Carter books but if memory serves me they were pretty much Tarzan books with stranger beasts and a little pseudoscience and lots of swordplay thrown in. Burroughs wasn't exactly a great writer, ya know. Lots of action, but character development and great dialogue just weren't a part of the novels. I would think the most important thing will be whether the actors can wield swords well and the acting will be secondary. |

Well that's your opinion. Personally I'll take Burroughs over Shakespeare, Hemingway and F. Scott any day of the week. Plus it wasn't all Tarzan but I figured some snob who thinks the books are pulp trash wouldn't tell the difference anyway. |

Now both Variety and the Hollywood Reporter are both reporting Willem Dafoe has joined the cast as the alien Tars Tarkas. It's an improvement over the leads anyway. |
