Every now and then, they get it right. Finally a Science Fiction Action-Adventure film with well-written plot, dynamic direction and a charismatic cast of characters.

This Star Trek movie captures the sense of wonder and adventure of the original series without alienating newer viewers. Watch the youthful original crew of the Enterprise come together to try and stop a world-destroying Romulan (played by Eric Bana from the first Hulk movie). The hi-tech action is state-of-the-art and the pacing feels just right.

The new Star Trek movie directed by JJ Abrams (Lost and Alias) and written by Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman (both Alias) is a great way to kickoff the summer blockbusters (sorry about that, Wolverine). Get to your nearest multiplex at warp speed!

Rated: **** for Fun

I concur wholeheartedly.

When I find a new movie I like, like The Dark Knight, I will buy it for my collection, but I don't go to theater to see it again. I may make an exception to that rule with Star Trek- in fact, I may drive a bit a see it at IMAX- could be impressive

I just saw it today and it was fun and a great start for the summer after the brainless crap that was Wolverine. Maybe it will be the start of a new breed of smart summer flicks and a move away from the comic books flicks that had glutted theaters the last few years.

I liked it too - but I was surprised that it was actually a lot dumber than I expected, with obvious jokes and no cerebral-type sci-fi at all. The cast was perfect, except for Bama as the villain - he sounded as if he'd just moved into outer space from Muscle Beach. The old Star Trek was pretentious, and this one isn't at all, but it sure is swift-moving and a lot of fun. Think the first Star Wars or Indiana Jones pictures.

It was a great little popcorn movie, and I loved the new cast. Going in, I wasn't sure about Chris Pine as Kirk, but after seeing it, I think he was my favorite in an outstanding ensemble. I'm already looking forward to the sequel.

We watched this th' other night and enjoyed it; the sound rumbling out of the speakers impressed everybody (Blu-ray isn't just for improved picture) and the consensus was the movie was dumb but a hell of a lot of fun. Vulnavia brought her 5-year-old nephew to FNF for the first time, and he TOTALLY got into the spirit of it, and watched everything from the opening cartoon ("Martian Through Georgia", more weird-funny than ha-ha funny but VERY colorful) to the short subject to what I think the kid liked best, chapter 7 of "Mysterious Doctor Satan" - lotsa robot action this week as the damn clunky thing robs a bank.

Our vintage short was "Let's Make a Sandwich" in which the boys do nothing but eat and the girls get their asses into the kitchen to cook for 'em. Yeah, right. The sandwich in question was "tuna rarebit", which consisted of melting things and then putting said melty things on toast and isn't the whole PURPOSE of making a sandwich to just slap some crap on two pieces of bread to save time and trouble?
