It looks like 5 of the Lex Barker Tarzan films are being made available through the Warner Archives website: http://www.wbshop.com/New-Releases/ARCHIVENEW,default,sc.html?psortb1=name-sort&psortd1=1&sz=53 |

If you type in: Tarzan Set, in the search, at the WB Archive site you should get a listing for all five Barker Tarzans as a bundled set priced at $49.95. (Separately they are $19.95 each.) Last week's coupon 25% off code, was XB592 and should bring the price down to $37.56, if the code is still active. Postage would be $5.95 for standard shipping. There's free postage when using the code when you buy five items. The Tarzan set counts as one item. Free postage also kicks in if you spend $60.00. Edited by Speedy, May 10 2009, 04:50 PM.

Where does one look for these discount codes? Not a post-JW Tarzan fan, but I've been following their release lists closely. |

I found the code at: hometheaterfroum.com in the sd-film and documentary forum. The codes are probably posted at dvdtalk.com and other forums. The code listed above was also active in March so you could try it again sometime, they apparently turn the same codes on and off. The 25% off codes work on no more than five items in an order. Looks like I might have to re-order the Barker Tarzans, there's been some sort of glitch at the WB site that made a lot of early Tarzan Set orders disappear, according to posters at the hometheaterforum. But it could just be an internal slowdown, I posted a little comment about one of the titles I bought at the WB site, on the movie's product page and it took them eight days to post it. I've purchased ten WB archives titles, all except one were westerns, and have been satisfied with them. I've signed up twice at the WB site to get their e-mail newsletters, which I would assume to have the current codes, but have not received any. Although, again from posters at HTF, some people get e-mails with the sale codes. |

Thanks for the info Speedy. The WB website has had issues for the last few days but finally seemed okay today. I placed an order for the Tarzan set and picked up Doc Savage as well. It's not a great movie but it's fun and Ely makes a decent Doc. I haven't seen it since its theatrical release. As of today the coupon code is still active. |

Should have stuck with your memories, CL. This one is a stinker. But, I am curious if it holds up for you, so if you think of it, report back once you have viewed it again. |

Batman, You're right in that memories are often better than a re-visit. Doc Savage is a soft spot for me as my dad got me hooked on the Bantom reprints of all of Doc's adventures when I was growing up. He then took me to the movie, so it will never live up to that memory (experience). I seem to remember a lot of Souza marching music on the soundtrack. |

Yes, I believe you are right about the Souza music throughout. Very annoying. So, did you watch DOC SAVAGE, again? |

I'll crack it open as soon as the order arrives and pop it in the player! I'll let you know what I think. |

With his roles as, Doc Savage, Tarzan,Superman, and Mike "Sea Hunt" Nelson, Ron Ely is the Buster Crabbe of his generation. Well my Tarzan order finally showed up in my WB account, as being in process, after being in limbo for a week. If I had gotten impatient and reordered I would have been charged twice. So it pays to be lazy....er...patient. |

My Tarzans arrived last night. I'll start watching them this weekend and report back on the quality of the prints. |

I thought I had you, when you posted this, Speedy. But a quick check of IMDB confirms that Ely played Superman in a 2-part episode of the 90's Superboy TV show. It's a shame that Warner has decided not to release the remaining seasons on DVD, including the season that would feature these episodes. |

I watched 1949's Tarzan's Magic Fountain this weekend. This is the first of five Lex Barker appearances as our favorite apeman. The print showed some minor wear and tear but overall was just fine. Lex looks good as Tarzan with his athletic 6'4" frame. The one thing that was a distraction to me was the fact that he runs around the jungle in leather slippers. Considering the rough terrain that he covers it makes perfect sense to wrap his tootsies in protective leather, but it just doesn't fit in with my preconceived notions of Tarzan. The rest of the cast was enjoyable, including Brenda Joyce as a lovely Jane, Albert Dekker as Trask and Evelyn Ankers as Gloria James Jessup, an Amelia Earhart-type pilot who had been lost in a jungle crash 20 years previous. We also get Alan Napier as her sweetheart. The plot involves the Magic Fountain which is in fact the Fountain of Youth. This secret is closely guarded by a tribe willing to go to any lengths to keep it undiscovered by the outside world. Tarzan knows the secret and when the tribe believes he betrayed their trust he becomes personna non gratis. They use a cool mounted crossbow that fires flaming spears to discourage unwanted guests. Nothing groundbreaking here, but an entertaining time filler. I look forward to viewing the next four entries. |

They may eventually show up from Warner Archives. Warner has said they will eventually include TV shows in this program. |
