Placed my order. There never was a third season, Chief. After the two seasons, Williams and Disney made four, hour-long TV specials and Disney is kind enough to break them up two in each tin set so what some consider a third season (even though it was not a season) is included. I have the first two episodes with their original network commercials as they aired for the first time. The first season came out commercially but you had to join a Disney club and the price was expensive. And they were colorized. These are supposed to be the uncut, unaltered prints. Disney is also working on a tin set for all the Professor Ludwig Von Drake cartoons. Cross your fingers as an inside source admitted that it was undergoing a restoration process as a result but if they succeed, that's the next tin set. Disney is cutting back on the tin sets due to the economy, sadly. |

Disney Movie Club put out both seasons with color and zero extras some time ago. The colorizing was mostly subtle and plausible, but who decided Don Diego needed a pink outfit? Way back in the VHS era, they put out some Zorro "movies" that consisted of story arcs edited together. I think those were black & white. So far as I know, the one-hour episodes were never released to video. I can understand why they're only doing Zorro this year -- the pricing on two 6-disc sets is at least equal to the cost of the usual three or four 2-disc sets. The future of the Treasures series is probably pretty fuzzy, seeing as how they've cleaned out the primo non-movie stuff from Walt Disney's lifetime. I doubt there's a big a market for the complete Mickey Mouse Club, although I'd sign on for the Jiminy Cricket segments ("I'm no fool, no siree . . ."). The Sunday night show? Maybe, but they've used the most notable early episodes in other Treasure collections and as extras on movie releases. And there were a lot of edited movies and shorts now available intact (although they used to do clever bits to tie the pieces together, such as having Donald Duck parody the show's format to present his own cartoons). There's still some classic unseen Disney to be sure, but possibly too much double-dip for the serious fan. Aside from odd individual films -- mostly post-Walt -- I can't think of any particularly painful gaps in my Disney TV & shorts collection now that I've got the Scarecrow. Does anybody else still have a Disney wish list? |

I'd like them to finish "The Swamp Fox" and "Elfego Baca". Then there's "Texas John Slaughter" and "The Saga Of Andy Burnett" and "Daniel Boone". These were all from the ABC years and were broadcast in black and white, but were filmed in color. The character Jeff York plays in the Zorro and the Mountain Man arc, "Joe Crane", is a crossover from the Andy Burnett series. And the other two? "Spin and Marty" serials (and was there another Hardy Boys?) from the Mickey Mouse Club. So there is still a lot of Disney live action TV that I would like to own on DVD. |

Well, "The Misadventures of Merlin Jones" is on DVD, but "The Monkey's Uncle" isn't... and that not only has Annette in it, but features her singing with the Beach Boys(!). I also wish they'd revisit some of their pan&scan titles and reissue them in widescreen, including Toby Tyler and the One and Only, Original Family Band. And has Almost Angels ever been on DVD? I loved that when I was a kid. I had the Zorro VHS tapes (six of 'em, I sold 'em for a tidy profit on eBay) and Kid Gravy loved watchin' 'em when he was little. Yeah, they were in B&W - and featured the 3-part story arc that guest-starred Annette Funicello (Walt's birthday gift for Annette, who had a mad crush on Guy Williams and who snuck over to the Zorro set whenever she could). |
