Billy Wilder made a French film?

Henri is spoiled. He drives around town in a car his father pays the upkeep on. He doesn't work (It's the recession, ya know), and he just has fun with his friends and drives around. Very fast, I might add. After having a siren put on his car, billed to his father of course, he goes to visit his father, a doctor. His father has 2 guests in his office, and to Henri's surprise, they are there to purchase the car that gives Henri so much pleasure. The deal is done right on the spot and a distraut Henri leaves, on foot, walking the streets. As luck would have it, Henri spots the buyers parking the car, AND leaving the keys in it. Henri takes off in the stolen vehicle and roars down the street. As luck would NOT have it, he is spotted stealing the car by a trio of car thieves. They catch up with him and the 4 of them. along with the 2 vehicles, go to the place of employment for the thieves. Thus begins Henri's new life as a car thief.

Henri, having no place of his own, starts staying with one of the thieves, Jean, a man who also fancies stealing men's neckties. Henri meets Jean's sister, Jeannette, who is also in on the car ring, and things seem to be going swimmingly, until ...

I rented this Kino disc from Netflix, on a whim. I was going to watch half of the 90 minute film before I went to bed, but you know how that goes. I was enjoying the film so much that I watched the whole thing, then decided to watch the cartoon extra on the disc too.

The film is mainly a comedy, that has a little bit of love story, then turns serious towards the end. Regardless of what it is, it is entertaining.

Stony observation: There's a Michelin Man poster on the wall of the chop shop. Who'd a-thunk it?

Stony rating: 4 outta 5 bong hits.
