A friend sent me this website. The guy sells westerns and comedies on DVD from old TV shows. Apparently he has videotaped a lot of old TV shows and is now selling them on the internet. He rates the quality and indicates up front that they are good, average, fair, etc. The thing I like is he is very reasonable in his pricing. I have ordered three sets so far. One set (Midnight Caller) was average in quality. The Dean Martin Roasts is pretty good. In my opinion, for the price, and if you have been looking for a show it might be worth a look.

but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

Thanks for sharing, Kan. There are a coupla shows there I may order, since you say he's OK. Those banners that float around his website are sure irritatin' though. One of 'em tells ya not to miss his wholesale items, but I never was able to discover where they were.

According to the About Us section of the site.

Quote:

All our sets are shipped in paper
sleeves without labels or cases. We
don't print anything on the discs as
this sometimes damages the data. The
sleeves are numbered 1,2 & etc. We
prefer that you do the labeling if any.
This also keeps costs down so we can
offer affortable prices. We are not
mass producers, we only charge for
the supplies and effort to make the
sets and help other collectors get
these old series. .

So there is a reason for the low prices. Still the prices are low and if the quality is good should be worth it even if you do need to provide your own cases and artwork. I've been wanting the 2003 Tom Berenger series Peacemakers. So for $15 including shipping I took a chance.

Guys, please report back on your purchases (quality, delivery, etc) and let us know if this guy is worth taking the chance on.

I am definitely interested in his WKRP complete series set.

Apparently these guys are independently wealthy, or only doing this as a hobby. Their site says to email them if you want to make multiple purchases, so I did, a coupla days ago. No response yet.

Hey, Chandy. They are probably set-up like Rodney, mostly doing it as a hobby and to help others get what isn't readily available.

So, they probably have full-time jobs that may take them away from the homestead for days at a time.

Hopefully they do get back to you, as their prices are very nice.

Just received the series Peacemakers from them. The 9 episodes came on 4 discs in paper sleeves with no writing on the discs. They mention this on the site so you do get what you pay for. What I didn't like was they came in a paper envelope with no bubblewrap and no cardboard stiffener. My discs arrived fine. But the way they are packed they could easily be damaged in shipment.

As for the discs themselves. You can play all or select episodes from the main menu and each episode has a chapter menu. I've watched part of the pilot and it is obviously from a tape of the original USA Network airing. It is about what you would expect from a transfer from a homemade VHS tape. That is it is watchable but somewhat on the soft side. It is $15 for the complete series of 9 episodes. I would say it is worth it especially for a series you don't find elsewhere. But if it were a series I could get elsewhere from someone such as Rodney I would certainly be willing to pay more for cases with artwork and perhaps better quality prints. Now watch Rodney mention that he has Peacemakers. :D

This is the way Netflix ships their discs, and I've received over 200 and I've never had a problem.

Watching the Lawless Years - The first season set was around $12. (Probably the only season set) The prints are quite good, the show it self is similar to the Untouchables set in New York in the 20's. The hero is Barney Ruditsky of the NYPD played by James Gregory. If you have seen Barney Miller you will get the impression you are watching Inspector Luger, the early years. The series is tinted sepia, I have no idea why this was done. For the price you can't go wrong.

When I tried to put How The West Was Won in my cart, I got an error message. Mebbe they thought I wuz tryin' ta shoplift it, or sumthin'. They finally did reply to me, but by then I'd taken Marlin's advice and ordered The Dakotas from Rodney, along with Hec Ramsay. Tired of foolin' with 'em.
