As of 9:00Am CT analog TV is no more. I bought a large screen HD TV for Christmas last year so it was no problem for me. I do have two other TV's that I had to buy digital boxes for and they are now installed. Everything seems to be fine.

The thing I believe will be an advantage is I can get about twice as many channels. I do not have cable or a satellite dish. The white noise is now totally gone also. Overall I really don't understand the necessity of the switch but I guess it will good in the long run.

The main reason for the switch was because the old part of the radio frequency spectrum that analog TV was much more valuable for other purposes like wireless data and cell phone networks. The government made billions of dollars auctioning off the reclaimed spectrum. Part of the reclaimed spectrum will also be used to improve communications among public safety organizations.

I've been hearing that people are able to pick up some digital signals, using their old TVs with rabbit ears, etc.

Anyone hear anything about the validity of this?

Not possible unless they have a converter box attached.

Hey Bats you should be able to get a digital signal by putting aluminum foil on your bat ears. :$ :D ;)

I remember our first cable system in Akron, we got it in 1970 I think. We had a box on top of the TV that had a switch to toggle between "A" and "B", and we had to get up to change the channels to 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B, etc. We only had a few extra stations other than the local VHF and UHF ones, like TBS, WOR and WGN. The other channels had stocks on 'em.

I can't imagine anyone not having cable nowadays, unless they're rural, and then I'd expect them to have satellite, unless they're not interested in TV at all.

I already do that, Smiley, but that's to help keep out the voices.

Batman - you can still receive analog TV -- signals from Canada have not switched yet

Thanks, Don. I was aware Canada had not switched over yet, and it really doesn't matter to me as I have digital cable.

I was just curious about the picking up of digital signals by rabbit ear televisions, as I had read/heard about it in a couple of places.
