By the way, I laughed out loud a few pages ago when von Zipper spotted Sugar Kane with Frankie & Annette and said that she was "mixed up with undesirables!" Speaking of von Zipper, he offers to give Frankie the "Himalayan Suspenders" treatment, taught to him by a professor-type person. It's a long story, but it's from the foist Beach Party film, and basically you press your finger against somebody's temple and it makes them turn to stone, and every time von Zipper tries it, he freezes himself. Which is what happens. And the Rat Pack gang says, "Ya did it AGAIN, boss!" and carries him off. Makes me laugh every time. Later, Frankie and Dee Dee walk on the beach, sing a song ("Let's Get Together") and then smooch. Ewwww. Meanwhile, in the moonlight Bonehead is looking for the girl who REALLY saved him. What a great funnybook this is! |

Bonehead finds her, and is SHE glad. He asked why she didn't come up on the beach; she says she can't, but she really really likes him. Her name is Lorelei, and she offers to meet him the next day at "the little cove down the beach." Oh, yeah, and she swims off with her fish tail swishing, she just happens to mention that she's a mermaid. Yikes! So the next day, Frankie and Dee Dee head for Big Drop's place, and Dee Dee gets her lessons, much to Frankie's chagrin, and Bonnie flirts with Frankie, much to Steve's chagrin. Alrighty then. Ain't nobody gonna flirt with Buster Keaton? Maybe Earl Wilson can do that. Boy, the Pathecolor REALLY brings out Annette's eyes, don't you think? And since you're going to ask, the house band in this picture is the Hondells, who had a hit with a cover of the Beach Boys' "Little Honda".

It isn't fun to see a comic book about a movie you find boring. See you here next month. |

A lot of crap is going on! Follow this.... 1. Steve and Dee Dee are jealous of Bonnie and Frankie. 2. Bonehead and Sugar go wading in the water, and something bites Sugar on the ankle. *giggles* 3. Paul Lynde hears that Frankie is a pretty good singer (he didn't hear that from ME) and invites Frankie to the mic; Frankie sings "These are the Good Times". 4. There is no number four. 5. Steve tells Frankie he can make his first jump tomorrow; Dee Dee says Frankie isn't ready and Steve is just pushing him to jump because he's sore at him. 6. Earl Wilson is nowhere to be seen. 7. Annette stomps home and sings "I'll Never Change Him". 8. Bonnie tries to talk Steve out of letting Frankie jump. 9. Bonehead has a rendezvous with Lorelei, who has legs and a bikini. She says she made the suit out of the parachute that "Sugar" used when she jumped, and that mermaids are "permitted" to use legs a few times in their lifetime. |

Stony, you wanker. Um, okay, so Lorelei says mermaids speak all languages, 'cause they learn from sailors. I'll bet. And she's 300 years old. And at midnight she turns back into a fish. So Bonehead says he'll get her some clothes and take her dancing before then. Alrighty then.

Wow, the movie is turning ugly. Dee Dee and Frankie go up with Bonnie in the plane; Dee Dee jumps, to Frankie's chagrin, but that leaves Bonnie and Frankie in the plane, see, and she puts it on auto pilot and tries to give him a big wet one. Ick. He refuses, so in anger she rips her blouse and when the plane lands she tells Steve that Frankie forced her to put the plane on auto pilot and tried to have his ugly Avalon way with her.

So Lorelei puts on her dress and looks ginchy. She and Bonehead double-date with Dee Dee and Frankie. Gosh, what a swell funnybook. They pile into the flivver and sing a neat-o song about what a great life it is to hang out on the beach and not have to work or go to school or shit like that. At the hot spot, they all waltz, the only dance Lorelei knows. And who should crash the party? Why, Eric von Zipper, naturally. ("Now this is a dance I like! It's keen!") Paul Lynde: "The plague has arrived!" von Zipper exits when he realizes Sugar isn't there, and heads for her beach house. What a wacko.

So Lorelei says goodbye to Bonehead; their love is doomed because they're of different worlds. *sniff* He gives her his medallion to wear. Not knowing what to do with her dress, he buries it in the sand - but he's spotted by some of the kids. The next day, Paul Lynde is upset because Sugar is missing; Frankie assumes that Bonehead killed her and buried her on the beach. WTF?!?!? Stalling for time, he tells Mr. Lynde that it's a publicity stunt and he'll find Sugar for him. Then he runs off to talk to Bonehead. Meanwhile, Sugar is playing pool with the Rat Pack and having a swell time.

So Dee Dee and Frankie make another jump, but over the ocean, and something goes wrong and they nearly drown. Steve brings the plane down and rescues Dee Dee, and Lorelei rescues Frankie, and Bonnie finally appreciates her beau and they make up and kiss. Bonehead tells Frankie that Sugar is a captive of von Zipper, and the surfers go down to beat the shit out of the Rat Pack. South Dakota Slim ties Sugar to the railroad tracks ("I seen this once in a movie") which pisses von Zipper off, and he races away to rescue his ideal. There's a lot of fighting going on, and a few panels later Bonehead rescues Sugar.

Well, Mr. Vornoff, since John Ashley and Deborah Walley were married in real life, one has to wonder how that slap played out at the dinner table that night after filming, eh? Here's a whole bunch of shit you can learn right through the mail, like... how to build boilers? Building inspection? Pulp and paper engineering? Lathe operating?

So, let me get this straight... Some guy is sittin' at home reading "Beach Blanket Bingo" and he decides to clip the coupon and become... a sewage plant operator? COBOL programmer? Analytical chemist? Motor traffic manager? Finally, Abe Vigoda is looking for people who like to draw, apparently. Have a nice Fourth of July kids, and we'll see ya next month for a super-groovy BATMAN funnybook!

Apparently not that well, since they were divorced in 1964. Whoops, make that 1966. (4 years total) You just can't keep slapping these gals and expect them to hang around for long. Edited by Vornoff, Jul 4 2009, 08:19 AM.
