Ever notice than in a lot of the earlier Serials the installments were called 'Episodes' ? ...
... and in some of the Serials released within the same years, others were called 'Chapters' ?
Then it seems like somewhere in the 30's they all started using 'Chapters'.

Don't mind me fellas, I'm just making a curious observation. :D

I think in the early days they were still experimenting with the form to see what worked with audiences and what didn't, and by the mid thirties the format was pretty much set for the rest of the sound era.

Episodes may have been a familiar term to everyone then as that's what the radio serials and soaps called their programs.

Good point -- and chapters, reminiscent of literature, may have seemed tonier.

'Episodes' is a more accurate description. If you look up 'Episodes' on Dictionary.com it mentions 'serialized' works, whereas 'Chapters' refers more to books.
