Say, kids, the latest serial release from the fine folks at Hermitage Hill ("Classic Serials") has arrived, and it's swell: a 3-disc edition of Call of the Savage starring Noah Beery, Jr., as Jan of the Jungle, What a goofy-ass serial THIS is, with a Tarzan clone, a Lost City of the jungle, and a monkey and all. The DVD includes portions of the original "Jan of the Jungle" story and a few stills. I'll have a review up in the balcony tomorrow. Meanwhile, you can order it here: http://www.hermitagehillmedia.com/ for only $14.95, ya cheapskates, ya.

You know whenever I think of a loin cloth wearing lord of the jungle, my first thought is always Rockford's dad.

What a great career he had. He was in some of the most fun movies AND one of the most fun TV shows.

So far I've watched the first four chapters of this Universal jungle serial and I can say without a doubt that this DVD by Hermitage Hill Media is really worth buying. The quality is fantastic (light years away from the VCI vhs release) but it seems that "quality is fantastic" is usual when it comes from Hermitage Hill Media. Take their DVD of The Scarlet Horseman (very sharp) and even their DVD of Red Barry (not as good as The Scarlet Horseman but the best available anyway) and you can see that Hermitage Hill Media is offering three serials at their highest quality. BTW the DVD cover isn't bad either.

I exchanged a couple of emails with Rob, head of Hermitage Hill Media, and he said he will come out with more serials in the future, but did not mention any titles.

You've convinced me! I just ordered all three.

Gravy, I prefer to consider myself "thrifty", rather than a cheapskate.

The word the Scots prefer is "careful," and of course they are renowned for their carefulicity.

During the annual Scotland festival in NYC, the words bandied about by Glenfidich distillers was "fiscally aware".
