They are basically an apology from the Academy and members for overlooking you throughout your career and then, when your career is over or nearly over, giving you a pat on the back. I don't know how I would feel if I were in the industry and they gave me one of these. I might be angry because they never recognized my work when I did it or happy to finally get something from them. While I am no great fan of Corman, he did show Hollywood how to do a good job on the cheap and did in a lot of ways contribute to defining the modern independent. Saving money is something the studio heads have always understood.

It's wonderful to see them recognize B pictures at last.
