Lester Dent, writer of Doc Savage and The Avenger and stuff like that, wrote a pulp fiction novel called "Honey in His Mouth" shortly before his death in 1959. It was never published - until now! I got a copy today. Here's a review (not mine): http://www.indenvertimes.com/book-review-dents-honey-in-his-mouth-a-sweet-read/ |

Yeah, Dent could be a pretty good writer... when he wanted to be. He wrote two short stories, back in the late 30's for Black Mask when Joe Shaw was editor. The protagonist in both ("Sail" & "Angelfish") was private operative Oscar Sail who was based in Miami & whose home was a sailboat. While Dent was no Hammett or Chandler, these two tales were quite a bit superior to some of the other stuff Black Mask was publishing at that time. Obviously, it was far superior to the work Dent was producing for Street & Smith. Both of these stories have been re-published... but I'll be damned if I can remember where (sighhhhh)!! |
